Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has once again raised concerns about former President Donald Trump’s fitness for office after he endorsed calls for her to be tried for treason in televised military tribunals. Trump reposted a message on Truth Social demanding Cheney’s trial, to which she responded by criticizing Trump’s stability and suitability for leadership.
In her tweet addressing Trump directly, Cheney wrote, “Donald – This is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a stable adult—and are not fit for office.” This exchange underscores the ongoing friction between Cheney, a vocal critic of Trump within the Republican Party, and the former president, who continues to exert influence over GOP politics.
On the same day, Trump also targeted top Democrats and some Republicans, including his former Vice President Mike Pence, with calls for their imprisonment. He shared a post calling for immediate incarceration of these figures, implicating them in events related to January 6th and other political controversies.
Trump’s repeated calls for Cheney’s prosecution date back months, with previous statements accusing her of destroying evidence and perpetuating claims about her role in suppressing exonerating evidence related to his actions on January 6th. These accusations stem from a controversial article published by Mollie Hemingway in The Federalist, which alleged that Cheney and the January 6th Committee withheld crucial information about Trump’s involvement in the National Guard response during the Capitol insurrection.
However, scrutiny of Hemingway’s claims has shown that the evidence cited was publicly released and did not support her assertions of suppression. The transcript of Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato’s testimony, which Hemingway claimed was hidden, was made available in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and included necessary redactions for security reasons.
