Austin is undoubtedly one of the titans of the wrestling industry, having left an indelible mark during the Attitude Era where he engaged in legendary battles with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Despite being forced to retire prematurely due to neck injuries and other ailments, Austin made a triumphant return to the ring in 2022 at WrestleMania 38, facing off against Kevin Owens in a street fight – a staggering 19 years after his last match.
Reflecting on the monumental occasion, Owens, who stood across from Austin that night, expressed his awe and gratitude in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT. “That’s still such a surreal thing that I got to do,” he shared. “Getting to be the one to be there with him after 19 years, at WrestleMania, is just incredible.”
Owens went on to emphasize Austin’s unparalleled greatness, stating, “Steve was the best, that’s really all I can say. I think, to me, he is on another level, so to be in the ring with him, you can imagine how incredible it was after a statement like that.”
When asked about the possibility of other iconic figures making surprise appearances, such as Sylvester Stallone paying homage to Rocky, Owens expressed his enthusiasm, remarking, “That’d be pretty badass.”
