The former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee(now AJ Mendez) revealed what WWE Chairman Vince McMahon told her following her departure from the company. It came after she announced her retirement back in 2015. She recently revealed what she told Paige before a Championship bout.
AJ Lee says Vince McMahon was kind to her
While many stars have been critical of Vince following their departures, AJ Lee, who is in a great shape, spoke highly of her former boss. While speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, AJ Lee talked about her WWE exit. She revealed that Vince McMahon told her that the door is always open for a return.
“He was very kind. He was just like, ‘the door’s always open if you want to come back.’ and that to me was I don’t know like I know it’s different for some people, but to me, it was so important to go out on top on my own terms.”
Lee had noted that a back injury was one of the main catalysts towards her decision to end her in-ring career. During the same interview, Lee explained her thought process before the decision. Here is what she said:
“I always felt great about the timing of when I retired. You never want to be the last girl at the party, you want to go out on top. Everything felt so perfect and tied up in a bow.”
She is a former 3-time WWE Divas Champion and she has been away from the industry since her retirement in 2015. She competed in her final match on Monday Night RAW after WrestleMania 31. Last year, she joined the WOW – Women of Wrestling promotion as an executive producer. Additionally, she will also be doing color commentary for the promotion’s weekly program.
