The Wall Street Journal recently published a report claiming that President Joe Biden is experiencing a serious cognitive decline, citing multiple sources close to the president. According to these sources, President Biden allegedly relies heavily on notes during meetings, struggles to remember his own policies, and often mumbles or remains silent for extended periods.
One Capitol Hill insider described feeling uncomfortable during a meeting with President Biden, stating that he spoke so softly at times that it was difficult to understand him. Others reported that President Biden would take several minutes to initiate meetings and relied on note cards once discussions were underway. Additionally, some claimed that much of the conversation did not involve President Biden directly, with staffers frequently answering questions on his behalf.
The report highlighted a specific incident in February where President Biden allegedly referred to a liquid natural gas export policy as “only a study,” despite it being in effect for weeks. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy also weighed in, noting that while President Biden always used notes during meetings, he appeared different from when McCarthy previously interacted with him.
However, a White House official dismissed these claims, asserting that President Biden remains a “savvy and effective leader.” The official accused congressional Republicans of making false claims as a political tactic to hinder President Biden’s reelection bid in 2024.
