WWE announced prior to this week’s SmackDown Live that Elias is not medically cleared to compete at the show and Shane McMahon later replaced him in the bout against Chad Gable.
However, latest report from Pwinsider reveals that this wasn’t always the plan and the officials had considered a different route to figure out a new opponent for Gable.
According to the site, the company had discussed the idea of doing a battle royal to determine the new challenger for Chad Gable but they ultimately decided against the idea.
Mr McMahon then made the call to have Shane McMahon take the place of the Drifter and compete in the semi finals of the King Of The Ring tournament.
Though Gable went on to defeat Shane too and he will now face Baron Corbin in the finals of the tournament at next week’s episode of Raw.
