During a conversation with rapper Wiz Khalifa, comedian and political commentator Bill Maher defended former President Trump’s controversial Access Hollywood tape, suggesting that Trump was merely acknowledging the reality of fame and its influence on people’s behavior.
The discussion began with Wiz Khalifa asserting his ability to attract any woman he desires due to his celebrity status. Maher used this remark as a segue to bring up Trump and asked Khalifa if he had seen the recent CNN town hall where Trump was questioned about the infamous tape.
In response to the incident, Trump referenced his “grab em’ by the p***y” remark and attempted to clarify his intent by stating, “I said if you’re famous and rich or whatever I said, but I said if you’re a star… ‘women let you.'” Trump went on to say, “For a million years, this is the way it’s been… this is the way of the world.”
Surprisingly, Maher appeared to agree with Trump’s defense of his comments during his conversation with Wiz Khalifa. Maher described Trump as an extraordinary figure, acknowledging his flaws but also emphasizing his perceived authenticity. Maher suggested that Trump had a unique quality of being both the “biggest liar in the world” and incapable of lying.
While clarifying that neither he nor Wiz Khalifa had engaged in the behavior described by Trump, Maher argued that Trump’s intent was to convey that fame and stardom have a mesmerizing effect on people, not just women. Maher claimed that the allure of stardom could lead individuals to behave in irrational ways, such as providing access to drugs or facilitating encounters with women.
Maher concluded by suggesting that Trump, in his clumsy way, was highlighting the reality of the world, where the power of fame can influence people’s behavior and cause them to act irrationally. Maher’s defense of Trump’s comments aimed to portray them as a reflection of the impact of stardom on society as a whole, rather than an endorsement of specific behavior.
“Trump is an amazing man,” Maher said. “I mean, he certainly is loathsome in many ways as I’ve certainly never been short of discussing, but he is kind of – it’s almost like he’s been given sodium Pentothal sometimes. I’m sure that’s what a lot of people love about him. He’s almost incap – he’s both the biggest liar in the world, and he’s incapable of lying.”
“He basically just said what we’re saying, not that I’ve ever grabbed anybody’s pu****s, I’m sure you haven’t either, but when you’re a star and you know this more than I do because this is like the level stuff you’re talking about,” Maher went on to say.
“People will do anything for you,” he continued. “They try to get you the best drugs, they bring women over…It’s not like Trump’s – he was trying to say in his clumsy way, he said, ‘well, for better or for worse,’ I think what he meant is worse for the woman…Point being, he was trying to say this is the way of the world. Stardom mesmerized people, not just women. It makes people go nutty, it does.”
