The incident dates back to 1992. Valentine had previously battled with Rick and Scott Steiner at several WCW events. Thus in a match Scott Steiner had attempted an Olympic-style suplex on Valentine. But, the  execution was not proper and could have been serious threat to his life and he almost suffered a serious neck injury.

Valentine said he did not want to work with Scott Steiner again after the incident.
He said:

“I gave him my back and he abused it, so I never trusted him again. But thank God we didn’t have to wrestle them very many times. I b****ed about it to somebody. I said, ‘Don’t ever f***ing… I ain’t wrestling him again.’ But I think we did wrestle him again, but I never let him behind me. You’re not getting behind me, Scott, sorry.”

Greg Valentine, who got inducted in the 2004 Class of Hall of Fame revealed that Rick Steiner was a “really nice guy” who was concerned with Valentine’s injury and even apologized for the mistake. He almost broke my neck.

Greg Valentine also said that Steiner should have been more careful and look after the safety of his opponents while working in the squared circle.
