Yesterday we reported that during his appearance on Talk Is Jericho, former Shield member Dean Ambrose revealed he, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns used to play out their gimmick and “gang up on” people backstage in order to influence decisions. Another interesting story to come out from his apparance was that WWE decided to break-up The Shield but waited until the last minute to relay the decision to all three Shield members.
Ambrose and Jericho’s conversation went:
Ambrose: “They knew, I think, that if they told us ‘yeah, we’re going to break this up’… because, you know, they kind of did it before and it didn’t work out because they would always go back to us, the break up I mean. But I think if they had told us beforehand, ‘yeah, we’re thinking about just cutting this thing off’ that we would have been like… we wouldn’t have seen the forest through the trees, kind of thing. We would have been like ‘what? What are you talking about?!? It’s going so good. The t-shirts are out, we’re super popular, what’s going on, this is going so good. This is not the right time. We’ve got so much more mileage left in this.’ We would have like gone in and caused a big stink and it would have been like they would have had to talk us down.
“So it was all decided and we didn’t get told until like right before the show. They brought us in and it was like dancing through everybody and then it was like right to Vince, just right to Vince, right into the room. He was like ‘this is what we’re doing and here’s why.’ We knew that there was no fighting it and we could tell that it had been hidden from us until then. And we’re like ‘all right.’ And then they explained it to us a little bit more and then we’re like ‘oh, okay. I guess that makes sense, yeah.’ Because, essentially, there was no one for us to work with at that point, we beat everybody.”
Jericho: “Do you think they waited until just before the show on purpose because they knew you guys would cause a stink, or have time to think about it?”
Ambrose: “Yeah, because that way there would be no time for any resistance. … It was very abrupt to us. We all knew eventually… we all have a million ideas for what we’re going to do. We’re going to break up, we’re going to feud with each other, we’re going to do this and that. Of course we know that’s going to happen, that’s what we want to happen. We just weren’t expecting it that day. It was kind of a shock.”
