Dos Santos Plans To Find New Competition While Awaiting Velasquez’s Return

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will be waiting longer than he originally expected for a title defense bout due to a shoulder injury that has him benched for the next six to eight months.

Velasquez’s management representatives confirmed the report this past week in an statement they released claiming Velasquez suffered a shoulder injury during his title winning bout back in October with Brock Lesnar.

As of now reports set sometime between June and August 2011 as his return to the octagon, which will give him six to eight months to recover and begin training again.

Recently Dos Santos’ manager Ed Soares spoke on behalf of the top contender saying he will not be waiting for Velasquez to return before fighting again in the heavyweight division.

The Brazilian says he will be looking for another fight in 2011 while waiting for challenger Velasquez to return to the Octagon. Dos Santos’ last bout was in August at UFC 117 in Oakland where he defeated Roy Nelson by unanimous decision.
