During Episode 113 of his podcast, ‘Firebrand with Matt Gaetz,’ he made his intentions clear, stating that he will introduce a freestanding bill to defund the investigation in the coming hours and days. Gaetz argued that the investigation was not only interfering with the election process but also attacking American democracy, describing it as a “witch hunt.”
In a tweet, Gaetz emphasized that the investigation was tantamount to election interference and called on Congress to put a stop to it immediately. He expressed concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding the investigation, particularly in terms of the individuals involved in the Jack Smith team. Gaetz believes that the public should have access to information about their political donations and connections to individuals in positions of power in Washington, D.C.
As a member of the Judiciary Committee, Gaetz has sought answers from the Department of Justice regarding the investigation but claims to have received inadequate responses. He believes that he is entitled to this information and has criticized the lack of cooperation from the department.
However, Gaetz acknowledges that the chances of his bill being signed into law under President Biden’s administration or being taken up by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are slim. Despite this, he is committed to pushing for the legislation to be introduced and put before Congress, emphasizing that the public deserves to know where their representatives stand on this issue.
