Jamie Foxx Had ‘Concerns’ Of Being Canceled

Over the years, Robert Downey Jr.’s remarkable journey as a prominent figure within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has cast a shadow over nearly every other aspect of his life and career. Yet, despite his larger-than-life superhero persona, he continues to captivate the public with his endearing personality and approachability. Downey’s quick-witted banter, filled with clever inside jokes and a sharp sense of humor, has become synonymous with his Hollywood star status, making him the epitome of a beloved celebrity.

Within this enigmatic charm lies the key to Downey’s box office success, drawing audiences back time and time again. Since his meteoric rise through Marvel’s Iron Man and Avengers projects, Downey’s portrayal of the perfect combination of genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist has kept fans on the edge of their seats. However, a smaller but devoted fan base recognizes his work beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, acknowledging his roles in films like the underrated cult classic Tropic Thunder.

While Tropic Thunder may not have reached the same mass appeal as his Iron Man movies, there is still a thriving demand for a sequel to the 2008 satirical comedy. Recently, during the premiere event of his new show, Downey’s Dream Cars, which airs on MAX, the seasoned star provided a final answer to the long-awaited question: Will there be a Tropic Thunder 2?

Initially appearing hesitant, Robert Downey Jr. expressed his clear terms and conditions for returning as Kirk Lazarus in another project. He hinted at the possibility of collaborating with Tom Cruise, stating, “Look, all I’ll say is this. Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together. And that’s kind of a yes. And then we’ll figure out what the title is.”

Coincidentally, Tom Cruise’s upcoming projects seem to align with this potential collaboration. With his Hollywood chapter seemingly coming to a close, having completed filming for Top Gun: Maverick in 2022 and the final two Mission: Impossible films set for release in 2023 and 2024, Cruise may be available for a joint venture with Downey.

In addition to the Tropic Thunder sequel speculation, there has been talk of a controversial film directed by Jamie Foxx, in which both Foxx and Downey are involved. The film, titled All-Star Weekend, boasts a star-studded cast, including Benicio del Toro, Jeremy Piven, Gerard Butler, and Eva Longoria. However, due to its potentially sensitive subject matter, the film has been indefinitely shelved, leaving fans curious about its contents and fate.

One of the reasons behind the film’s cancellation appears to be the precarious intersection of comedy and politics in the current era. The play on race and racism within the movie, with Downey portraying a Mexican character and Foxx assuming the role of a “white, racist cop,” was deemed too delicate to navigate given the heightened sensitivities surrounding these issues. Foxx, recognizing the potential for controversy and cancellation, opted to err on the side of caution despite his comedic intentions and the creative merits of the film. He said he feared being canceled if the film came out.
