Judge Cannon, the judge in the Trump documents case, has decided to hold the trial in a courthouse that will pull jurors from a heavily Republican group of districts. This means that jurors will be pulled from Highlands (66% Trump), Indian River (60% Trump), Martin (62% Trump), Okeechobee (72% Trump), and St. Lucie (50.38% Trump) counties, all which voted for Trump in 2020. Meanwhile many Republicans have been complaining that the jury in Trump’s other cases might be disproportionately represented by people who voted against Trump. If you are claiming that one is fair and the other isn’t, then you are just a hypocrite. In the end, we need to trust the court system, the appeals process and the jury selection process. This is how our courts have worked for centuries. If you think something needs to be changed now, then you are just worried that the outcome won’t match what you want it to be.

The federal judge overseeing the case regarding former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents after leaving office has agreed to delay an upcoming hearing. Judge Aileen Cannon has rescheduled the hearing, originally set for Friday, July 14, to Tuesday, July 18.

The delay was requested by Walt Nauta’s attorney, Stanley Woodward, due to a scheduling conflict with a bench trial he needs to attend as defense counsel for a defendant involved in the Justice Department’s investigation of the January 6 Capitol attack.

While Jay Bratt, the top prosecutor for special counsel Jack Smith, argued against the delay, emphasizing the public interest in keeping to the original schedule, Judge Cannon ultimately granted the request.

Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team has sought a lengthy delay for the trial, claiming that it would not be possible to complete the case before the 2024 election. Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal counts last month, related to his alleged refusal to return classified documents. The charges include accusations of withholding documents containing classified information ranging from U.S. nuclear secrets to national defense capabilities.

Nauta, Trump’s former valet and longtime aide, also pleaded not guilty to six counts, including conspiracy to obstruct justice and making false statements.

Throughout the proceedings, Trump has vehemently denied all charges, denouncing Smith’s investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt. The case continues to unfold as the legal teams prepare for further hearings and trial proceedings.
