Ric Flair opens up on the movie role offer

“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair recently had a conversation with WrestleZone in which he covered a wide range of topics. Flair was questioned if he ever lost out on any significant side possibilities while being a pro wrestler. Flair went on to reminisce a period in the 1980s when he was given a “James Bond-type” part from Orion Pictures.

If Ric Flair had taken the role in the film, his pro wrestling career in the 1980s would have taken a totally different turn. Flair also revealed that just making a commercial needs an investment of 10 hours from his schedule and it would have been very difficult for him to commit to an entire movie:

For me personally, you remember Orion Pictures? Years ago, right, so the guy from Orion came to see me. We just started wrestling in LA in the 80s with the WCW NWA Crockett right, and they had a role for me in a movie like a James Bond type role. Which in my mind, back then, I was living like that anyway. [laughs] And the owner [would’ve] paid me $500,000, and you know that would have had to lose the world title and go away [to film].

And then — I realized after just making a commercial yesterday that took almost 10 hours to shoot just a commercial. I think I always thought that I missed that stuff that The Rock and Cena had, but I couldn’t live that life that 6 am take retake, retake, retake. I tell the guys I’m ‘One Take Naitch.’ Unless you’re Vince McMahon, then I’ll take as many takes as you want me to take, but no, I missed a big deal. But now I know that I’m not cut out to go to bed at 12 o’clock at night and get up at six and spend an hour in a make-up chair. So I didn’t miss out on anything, no, but I did have an opportunity.

Though Flair did not commit himself into acting, eventually stars like The Rock and John Cena have cemented their spots in the Hollywood.
