This week’s episode of WWE NXT featured the start of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament. In the first round, Toni Storm teamed up with Mercedes Martinez and squared off against Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter.
The match was a thrilling one from start to finish, as each team was determined to pick up the win somehow. Martinez and Storm were in control of the match for the first half and it looked as if they had it won.
However, the final moments of the match saw Io Shirai coming out and interfering in the match. She threw Mercedes off the apron and over the announce desk. Due to this distraction, Catanzaro hit an amazing spinning Phoenix Splash on Storm and got the three count. She secured the win for her team and will advance to the second round of the tournament.
Catanzaro’s insane move certainly impressed many, including WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels. Michaels commented on the move by asking how many flips she performed.
How many … how many flips was that?!?
Disco Inferno also referenced Catanzaro’s gravity-defying move by stating that this Wednesday was a dangerous looking night of pro wrestling.
Tonight was a dangerous looking night of pro wrestling. #WednesdayNightWars
