John Cena is one of the biggest names of WWE and he successfully transitioned into an actor. He reached heights of success and over the years he bagged several roles. However, he made his acting breakthrough with ‘The Marine’ by WWE Studios but he is not proud of his work for that project.

John Cena reveals why he is not proud

The former 16-time World Champion recently sat down with In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast to talk about his ever-growing acting career and went on to discuss his upcoming projects. During this, he reflected on his work with WWE Studios. Speaking about ‘The Marine,’ he said:

“I just filmed a movie Freelance in Columbia,” Cena said. “And I’ve always wanted to do another Marine, because so many folks talk to me about The Marine. I can’t believe it. And it was actually something I wasn’t really proud of, because that’s a situation where I look back and say I didn’t give my all. I was commuting back and forth from Australia to Smackdown.

“I really, as a young man, I wanted to be in the middle of the rock star life. I wanted to be in front of those sold-out crowds. And then I get to a quiet movie set where everything takes forever, and I just didn’t have the wisdom or the knowledge or the perception to realize how big of an opportunity it was. But come hell or high water, a lot of folks watched it.

Cena can be witnessed in the upcoming movie, ‘Freelance’, which is an action-comedy directed by Taken helmer Pierre Morel. AGC Studios, run by Stuart Ford, is behind the project, which has Steve Richards of Endurance Media, Sentient’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin producing.

The script by Jacob Lentz centers on an ex-special forces operator who, desperate to escape his humdrum life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who is hoping to salvage her career by interviewing a dictator. Things go sideways when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape to the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, animals hunting them and each other.
