Trump Accuses Fox Host Of Rigging Election Numbers

According to Mediate, former President Donald Trump’s reaction to Fox News correspondent John Roberts’ reporting has sparked a fiery exchange, highlighting Trump’s sensitivity to his polling figures and his tendency to engage in intense rhetoric. The incident occurred during an interview featuring Chris Christie, a former ally of Trump’s and a contender for the Republican presidential nomination, who offered critical remarks about Trump’s current standing.

In response, Roberts remarked that Trump remains the “frontrunner by a longshot,” acknowledging a minor dip in support after the initial debate but emphasizing his continued lead over other candidates.

However, these comments did not align with Trump’s expectations or desired narrative. In a characteristic move, Trump took to his favored communication platform, Truth Social, to express his dissatisfaction. He vehemently countered Roberts’ assertion, insisting that his poll numbers had, in fact, risen after the most recent debate and that he held a commanding lead over both his rivals:

“I am leading DeSanctimonious by more than 50 Points, and Crooked Joe Biden by a lot. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Not stopping at mere disagreement, Trump directed his criticism towards Christie, whom he dubbed “Sloppy Chris Christie,” calling for him to abandon his presidential bid as Trump believed Christie’s campaign was futile and detrimental to the Republican Party.

Contrary to Trump’s passionate claims, an analysis of polling data suggests that his support has slightly decreased since the primary debate, even though he maintains a substantial lead. Comparing polling averages, Trump’s support dwindled from 55.4% to 53.9% among national GOP voters, as reported by the RealClearPolitics polling average. While he still holds a significant advantage over his closest competitor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who lags behind by approximately 41 points, the minor decrease is noteworthy.

Regarding Trump’s assertion of leading Joe Biden “by a lot,” a deeper examination of polling data contradicts this narrative. Aggregated polling averages assessing a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 election reflect Biden holding a slim one-point lead over Trump. The majority of surveys included in this analysis show Biden leading, with only two polls placing Trump ahead, albeit by a marginal margin of two and three points, respectively.
