Megyn Kelly recently conducted an interview with former President Donald Trump on her SiriusXM show, where they discussed various topics, including a memorable moment from the 2015 Republican presidential debate.
During the debate, Kelly, then co-moderating for Fox News, asked Trump about his past derogatory comments towards women, saying, “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.”
Trump famously responded, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
In the recent interview, Kelly revisited this moment and asked Trump about his temperament, saying, “For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell. Does that sound like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?”
Trump responded, “No, no, it was a nasty question,” to which Kelly disagreed, saying, “It was awesome.”
The exchange continued with Trump explaining that some questions don’t have great answers, and he was lucky to have come up with a good response at the time. Kelly acknowledged that his poll numbers went up after the exchange, but Trump emphasized that certain questions are challenging to answer no matter how skilled a debater one may be.
The interview also touched on Trump’s refusal to attend debates with his Republican rivals during the current election cycle. Kelly proposed moderating a debate before the Iowa caucus, but Trump declined the offer.
Notably absent from their conversation was any mention of the aftermath of the 2015 debate exchange. Following the initial debate, Trump attacked Kelly on social media and made controversial comments about her. He later boycotted a Fox News debate in which Kelly was a co-moderator.
The interview with Kelly also featured questions challenging Trump’s decisions during his presidency and his handling of figures like Dr. Anthony Fauci during the COVID-19 pandemic. They discussed Trump’s stance on mandates and the rapid development of the COVID-19 vaccine during his tenure.
Additionally, Kelly questioned Trump about the classified documents case against him, specifically referencing an audio recording in which he mentioned “secret information.” Trump insisted that he had done nothing wrong and that the matter should be handled civilly rather than criminally. Kelly pressed him on why he didn’t comply with a subpoena, even if he believed the charges were politically motivated.
Overall, the interview covered a range of topics and provided insight into Trump’s perspective on various issues.
