According to Mediaite, former President Donald Trump made bold claims of a legal victory akin to a scene from “Perry Mason” outside the courtroom where he is currently embroiled in a fraud trial. Speaking amidst a tumultuous backdrop of reporters’ questions on various topics, including the recent Gaza hospital bombing and the failed attempt to install Rep. Jim Jordan as House Speaker, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with being entangled in the trial instead of actively campaigning for the presidency.
Asserting his conviction, Trump labeled the ongoing trial as a “disgrace” and accused the New York Attorney General Letitia James of election interference. He alleged that the government had misled the public, emphasizing his belief that the case would soon be dismissed. Responding to queries about Senator Bob Menendez’s upcoming arraignment, Trump extended well wishes, presuming the senator’s political affiliation as a Democrat.
Despite being pressed by reporters about his absence from the campaign trail, Trump remained resolute, emphasizing his dedication to monitoring the trial’s proceedings. Defending his presence, he contended that his active involvement was crucial in ensuring the facts were portrayed accurately to the public. Trump’s fervent denunciation of the attorney general and the government’s alleged deception reverberated throughout his impassioned remarks, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing legal battle.
As he prepared to reenter the courtroom, Trump alluded to the significance of the unfolding events, anticipating an engaging continuation of the trial. However, questions about the possibility of an appeal, the vote count for Jordan, and his future courtroom attendance remained unanswered, leaving an air of suspense lingering as the legal drama unfolded.
REPORTER 1: Mr. President, Senator Bob Menendez is being arraigned on Monday, this superseding indictment (inaudible). What do you think about that?
DONALD TRUMP: Well, I don’t know very well. I wish him luck. He’s a Democrat? I wish him the best. What I did see and what you just saw was what took place in the courtroom just now. And it’s a disgrace that this case was brought. It’s election interference. That’s what they’re doing, because I’m here instead of been campaigning. And I guess as you. There’s a CNBC poll that has me way ahead of Biden.
REPORTER 2: Why aren’t you campaigning, sir?
DONALD TRUMP: Because I want to be at this trial, because I want to see what’s happening at this trial. And because moments like this. I’ve just knocked this trial down to the level that it should be dismissed —
REPORTER 3: Will you appeal?
DONALD TRUMP: This trial is a disgrace. This trial is a disgrace. Should have never been brought. And if you watched what just took place in the courthouse, if you report it honestly, and I’m sure you will, because it’s really no other way you can report it. The government lied. They knew everything about what just took place, and the government lied and they lied to the people.
The attorney general lied because she wanted to get elected by using Trump. And if you look at what just took place, the government has been now proven to be a liar and there has to be some kind of recourse for what’s going on. And that’s why because if I wasn’t here probably making people wouldn’t see the facts the way they are. So we’ll go inside and we’ll watch the rest of it. And I think you’ll find it very interesting.
REPORTERS: Are you going to appeal? Does Jordan have the votes? Are you coming back tomorrow?
