Donald Trump Jr., during his podcast “Triggered,” was asked about potential candidates for his father’s running mate in the upcoming election. Starting at about 12:28 in the full video on Rumble, Trump Jr. clarified that he doesn’t have “inside information” but shared his personal thoughts and preferences.
Trump Jr. mentioned that he has been advocating for Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) but also discussed the pros and cons of other potential candidates. He mentioned Ben Carson, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and himself as possibilities, noting that Burgum would be well-suited for a role such as Energy Secretary. However, when it came to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Trump Jr. identified a significant issue.
He explained that having someone more established like Rubio could be problematic, especially with Senate RINOs who might prefer someone like Rubio. Trump Jr. humorously suggested that if his father chose someone like Nikki Haley, establishment figures might push for impeachment almost immediately after the inauguration on January 20th.
Trump Jr. pointed out that having a running mate from outside the establishment could provide protection against such moves. Additionally, he noted the geographical conflict of both the former president and Rubio being residents of the same state, further questioning the likelihood of Rubio being chosen due to the preference of RINOs and the potential for impeachment to elevate him to the presidency.
