Vince McMahon booked the Boneyard Match for WrestleMania without knowing what it was

The Boneyard Match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles was certainly the highlight of Night 1 of WrestleMania 36. The two men put up a cinematic experience for the viewers and it was well-received by everyone.

Triple H revealed a lot of interesting details about the background for the Boneyard Match on Corey Graves’ After the Bell podcast. Before the show was produced, Triple H approached Vince McMahon and asked him if he had something that he wanted the Game to look into the most.

McMahon’s answer was “The Boneyard Match”. When the King of Kings asked the Chairman as to what a Boneyard Match is, he said he had no idea himself. McMahon gave a vague explanation of what he thought the match was and asked Triple H to “just make it good”.

The Game ran with what little information he had and produced the amazing spectacle that stole the show on Night 1 of WrestleMania.

Booking matches without knowing what they’re supposed to be is classic Mr. McMahon but the fact that Triple H made it all come together is also a commendable feat.
