Vince McMahon ‘Rejected’ Signing Top AEW Star

Bruce Prichard revealed on a recent Something To Wrestle With podcast that Vince McMahon rejected signing AEW star Sting in 1988 due to his similarities to The Ultimate Warrior. Vince McMahon Being Rumored To ‘Bury’ Bobby Lashley At WrestleMania was revealed today.

“We had talks in 1988. We had talks at different times about ‘Hey Steve, would you be interested in coming over?’ They just never really materialized beyond that.

“At the same time we had [The Ultimate Warrior] and I believe Vince looked at it as ‘I’ve got Warrior, what do I need another Warrior for?’ I think Sting kind of looked at it like that. Warrior’s doing our gimmick up there, I’ll do it down there and there was a comfort, there was a comfort with WCW and Sting.”

Sting and The Ultimate Warrior began as The Freedom Fighters, eventually working together briefly in WCW in 1998, though for most of their careers in the late 80’s and 90’s they were on opposite sides in the WWF and WCW.

Bruce was also asked if Vince takes vacations. “Had a what?” Prichard said. “I couldn’t even begin to guess. [Going to live shows] is his relaxation, yes.” Wrestling Inc transcribed Prichard’s remarks.
