The marriage between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith has been a lightning rod for controversies over the years, but despite all of that, the two don’t seem to part ways anytime soon. It has come to light that Jada doesn’t always accept romantic gestures from her husband, Will Smith.
It has been noted that there was a time when Smith went all out to celebrate his wife’s 40th birthday but the lady was not at all moved by his actions. Will Smith had some massive plans to surprise his wife on her 40th birthday. He opened up about his family’s “low point” which was around the same time when the actress was to be turned 40.
He even detailed this episode in his autobiography, Will sharing how he shut down the entire hotel in New Mexico and invited their close friends and families for dinners. For the next night, there was a private art show planned along with a surprise performance by Mary J. Blige. As for the last day, her life’s documentary was to be released which definitely was one of the most lavish birthdays one could have ever planned.
However, the reaction was nothing like what he anticipated from the Set It Off actress.
The first night went smoothly as planned. However, the actress’ reaction completely went blank the next night. After their Saturday dinner for 40 guests, the King Richard star had planned to show the video of her deceased grandmother and delve deep into her ancestral roots. He wrote in his book how the room went silent on hearing Pinkett Smith’s grandmother.
“For the first time since her passing, Jada was hearing the voice of her grandmother speaking directly to her.”
However, the actress was unhappy with the whole plan as he wrote what his wife said to her at the time.
“That was the most disgusting display of ego I have ever seen in my life!”
He continued,
“Jada and I didn’t speak anymore in Santa Fe. We didn’t speak on the flight back to Los Angeles. We didn’t speak for a few days after we got home.”
