WWE star Mustafa Ali had previously requested his release from the company but it seems that he is set for a shocking return.
Mustafa Ali could be back
According to Fightful Select, Ali is ‘tentatively scheduled’ to be at tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw from Knoxville, Tennessee. His return to TV was said to have been discussed as of last weekend.
It has been noted that Ali has not appeared on any of the company’s programming since a two-minute loss to Drew McIntyre on the October 29, 2021, edition on Friday Night SmackDown and the 36-year-old hasn’t won a match on TV since a tag team victory with Mansoor on the September 2 episode of Main Event.
Ali was also pulled from TV in the autumn after a ‘heated argument’ with Vince McMahon over his creative direction, with reports noting the WWE Chairman pitched a character Ali ‘would never have done.’
Ali then requested his release from WWE in January of 2022 but the company have not granted that request, with ‘value’ being brought up in conversations between the former SmackDown Hacker and his employer. The former RETRIBUTION Leader also seemingly still has years left on his WWE deal as he tweeted back in February that he would see fans in about two-and-a-half years.
It has been also reported that a higher up in WWE told that they’ve granted release requests of late because it would be difficult to justify not granting releases when they’ve had so many “budget cuts” of late. One wrestler on the Smackdown roster said that for someone that works on his craft as much as Ali does, not having anything for him or featuring him at all was seen as a punishment. It has been noted that Ali was well-liked within WWE and now we will have to how the company reacts to Ali’s request.
