WWE apparently did not plan on Roman Reigns holding Universal Title for long

Roman Reigns made his return at the end of WWE SummerSlam and he finally had his heel turn. He went on to win the WWE Universal Championship at Payback afterwards. He is now the tribal chief on Friday Night Smackdown but it seems WWE initially had other plans for Roman as champion.

The Miz is currently the holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase and it seems he does not have his sights set on Roman Reigns. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that according to original plans, Roman was not going to be the Universal Champion for a long time. Despite it being obvious, him having a long reign as champion was not the original plan.

He does not know who else would have been the champion as the company has devalued everyone else.

Roman Reigns will be squaring off against newly-crowned WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at WWE Survivor Series this Sunday.  We will have to see how they will book the champion vs champion match.
