WWE fans not likely to return for live shows anytime soon

The COVID-19 outbreak has taken over the world and has affected the pro wrestling world as well. Pro wrestling has managed to combat the situation by taking the necessary steps in order to put on shows. However, it is very unlikely we will be seeing live crowds during shows for a long time.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated, hopes of seeing fans during live shows have been quashed. PhD of epidemiology Zach Binney revealed that live sporting events will not return until a COVID-19 vaccine is found.

“We will not have sporting events with fans until we have a vaccine.”

This is very likely to take a long time. Generally, a vaccine takes anywhere between 12-18 months to develop and distribute. Binney did not see much hope in leagues running in closed arenas.

To safely pull off shows, each competitor would need to be isolated for two weeks before and after a show and all staff would need to be tested daily. If an athlete left the secured area for any reason they would need to be isolated for another two weeks. All of this, including compensation for the time of the athletes, would require a huge amount of money.

Both Impact Wrestling and AEW have taped months’ worth of content for their shows. On the other hand, Vince McMahon will be running live WWE shows after he suddenly changed his mind on pre-taping shows.
