WWE Forever plays as we head into the August 5, 2020 edition of WWE NXT on the USA Network as 8:00 p.m. hits. Mauro Ranallo and Beth Phoenix on commentary for tonight’s edition of NXT.

Video Package

We immediately head into a video package to start the show. A highlight’s recap of last week’s events that lead to this week, including in-ring when Keith Lee called out Karrion Kross while shutting down Cameron Grimes; Dexter Lumis advancing to the North American Championship Ladder Match at TakeOver XXX; and finally, the Undisputed Era return.

#1 Contender Match for NXT Women’s Championship
Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai

Ranallo Mauro announces that the winner of tonight’s match will be the next to take on NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai. Out first is Rhea Ripley as her entrance theme sounds in the arena, still rockin’ the new blonde ‘do that she debuted on last week’s NXT. Out next is Dakota Kai who makes her way down to the ring to join opponent, Rhea Ripley. The referee signals for the bell, and our first match of the evening is officially underway!

Ripley has the clear strength advantage over Kai and tosses her down to the ground. Kai forces Ripley down to her knees and chops at her chest, but Ripley is unphased. Ripley comes back with a series of ripcord clotheslines and a standing dropkick.

Kai retreats into a corner and Ripley gives chase, chopping at Kai’s chest. Ripley kicks away at Kai’s legs and continues to chop at Kai, landing a strong strike to Kai’s midsection as well. Then, Ripley hits a delayed vertical suplex for two.

Ripley runs the ropes and hits a wheelbarrow face-buster on Kai, covering her for two again. Next, Ripley gets kai up in a corner and they trade punches, but Ripley gets the upper-hand and grounds Kai with punches. Finally, Ripley pulls at Kai’s hair and gets a body scissors in on Kai. Kai rolls Ripley back and pins her, but Ripley forces Kai back forward and punches away at Kai’s back

Ripley uses the hair again and transitions into a pin fall attempt for two. Kai and Ripley get to their feet, but Ripley grounds Kai with a huge clothesline. Ripley picks up Kai and Kai strikes back at Ripley, but kicks at Kai’s midsection. Kai and Ripley run to the side of the ring and Kai rolls out. Kai tries to pull Ripley out of the ring, but Ripley kicks Kai in the face.

Ripley gets out of the ring and kicks at Kai again. Next, Ripley gets Kai in an electric chair outside of the ring and drops Kai face first onto the apron. Ripley quickly gets Kai back in the ring and pins her for two and we go to commercial.

As we return from commercial and Ripley rolls up Kai for two. Kai hits Ripley with a pump kick to the face and covers Ripley for two. Next, Kai locks in an abdominal stretch. Kai rolls into a pinfall attempt for two. Finally, Kai goes for a kick, but Ripley dodges and hits Kai with a kick of her own.

Kai runs at Ripley and Ripley takes Kai down with clotheslines and knees to the face. Ripley hits Kai with a dropkick to the back of the neck and gets Kai in an electric chair, then drops Kai on her face, pinning her for two.

Kai and Ripley trade shots. Ripley hits Kai with an elbow and Kai hits Ripley with a scorpion kick. Kai runs at Ripley and Ripley pops Kai up, letting her fall directly on her face. Ripley pins Kai for two. Ripley goes for a Riptide, but Kai reverses into a DDT and covers Ripley for two.

Kai goes for the Kairopractor and Ripley reverses with a big boot. Ripley gets Kai in the Prism Trap, but Kai hits a Hurricanrana and sends Ripley face first into the middle turnbuckle. Kai hits a Face-wash kick on Ripley, sending her to the apron. Next, Kai goes for a Superplex but Ripley lands a shot on Kai’s face and knocks her to the apron.

As Kai falls to the apron, Mercedes Martinez comes from nowhere out of the audience and takes advantage of the distraction and kicks Ripley in her face. The referee was distracted checking on Kai, so he missed the surprise attack. Kai takes advantage of the attack and hits Ripley with the GTK on Ripley for the three count, pin and win! Dakota Kai moves on as the number one contender to take on current NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai, ruining Rhea Ripley’s chance for the title once again!

Winner: Dakota Kai

After the Match

Dakota Kai retreats up the ramp and celebrates. Ripley gets to her feet in the ring as Mercedes Martinez re-enters the ring and rubs salt in the wounds of Rhea Ripley as she once again attacks an already defeated Ripley.

As we head to commercial, we see Undisputed Era’s arrival to the arena earlier today as Beth Phoenix announces that Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish team up from Undisputed Era to take on Imperium for tonight’s main event!

Back from commercial and we see footage from earlier today of Pat McAfee speaking with Shawn Michaels at the performance center.

Bronson Reed vs. Shane Thorne

Thorne and Reed lock up, and Reed pushes Thorne into the corner. The referee forces a break. Shane nails Reed with a series of forearms to the face, but Reed is unphased. Reed hits Throne with forearms to the face and runs the ropes, but Thorne hits a dropkick onto Reed.

After, Reed rolls out of the ring and Thorne hits a tope onto Reed. Next, Reed hits a full nelson slam on Thorne onto the ring apron, then rolls him back in the ring. Reed goes to the top rope, but Thorne blocks him. Thorne hits a leaping palm strike on Reed, then goes to the top and goes for a superplex.

Reed pushes Thorne off the ropes, but Thorne lands on his feet. Thorne hits a running senton on Reed, then hits Reed with a shining wizard, pinning him for two.

Thorne gets Reed to his feet and hits a headbutt on Thorne. Reed picks up Thorne in a military press and then drops him, followed by a senton. Next, Reed pins Thorne for two. Reed picks up Thorne in a fireman’s carry, but Thorne escapes. Thorne hits Reed with a kick to the head and blows to the upper body, but Reed stays on his feet.

Thorne runs the ropes and goes for a clothesline, but Reed dodges and hits a clothesline of his own on Thorne. Reed hits Thorne with a Death Valley Driver. Reed goes to the top and hits his Tsunami Splash on Thorne, then covers him for three.

Winner: Bronson Reed

After the Match

Bronson Reed celebrates as commentary notes that Reed is set for the 5-Way Ladder Match for the North American Championship at TakeOver XXX.

Video Clip – Earlier Today

Breezango are shown arriving earlier outside the arena when they are attacked by Legado del Fantasma. They pull up in an SUV and attack Breeze and Fandango. They toss Fandango into the back of the SUV and drive off.

A video clip airs showing the contenders already qualifying for the 5-man Ladder Match set for NXT TakeOver XXX for the North American Championship.

Next, the clip announces the upcoming triple threat match between Damian Priest, Oney Lorcan, and Ridge Holland up next, right after this commercial break.

Outside Interview – Robert Stone and Company

As we return from commercial break, Mackenzie asks Robert Stone why Mercedes Martinez interrupted in the Rhea Ripley match against Dakota Kai. Stone looks to Mercedes and Aaliyah then states, “I’ll answer this. Rhea Ripley may be done with the Robert Stone Brand, but the Robert Stone Brand isn’t done with Rhea Ripley.”

He laughs along with Aaliyah and Mercedes. Robert and Mercedes begin to walk off as Aaliyah says, I got this, turning to Mackenzie and in a childish voice stresses, “Byyy-eeee!!”

Triple Threat Qualifying Match for North American Championship Match at TakeOver XXX Damian Priest vs. Oney Lorcan vs. Ridge Holland

Out first for this triple threat match-up is Damian Priest as his entrance theme sounds in the arena. Priest enters the ring, awaiting his other two opponents. Out next is Oney Lorcan who quickly heads down the ramp and enters the ring, throwing his arm in the air as he stares down Damian Priest who is leaning against the ring post.

Last, Ridge Holland makes his way to the stage as his entrance theme sounds. Holland stops at the bottom of the ramp to stare at the North American Championship title, then enters the ring with Lorcan and Priest.

The referee signals for the bell. The bell rings, and the triple threat qualifying match is officially underway! The three look back and forth to one another. Lorcan goes after Holland. Priest knocks down both Lorcan and Holland, then raises his hands in victory. Then, Priest with a kick to the face followed by a Leaping Flatliner.

Priest with a combo on Lorcan who counters. Holland knocks Priest out of the ring, Lorcan then shoves Holland out of the ring, running and flying over the top rope to land on Holland and Priest.

All three men back in the ring, Suplex by Holland on Lorcan. Priest takes the offense on Holland. Holland launches Priest across the ring, then Clotheslines Priest over the top rope to ringside as we head to commercial break!

Back from commercial and Holland and Priest are trading blows. Lorcan comes out of nowhere off the top rope and hits a dive onto both men. Lorcan hits a double blockbuster on Priest and Holland, then pins Holland for two. Priest goes for a kick on Lorcan but Lorcan catches the leg and gets him in a single leg Boston crab.

Priest kicks him off and Lorcan hits a European uppercut on Holland and Priest, then pins Priest for two. Next, Priest runs out of the ring and Lorcan runs at Holland, but Holland takes Lorcan down with a high angle pounce. Holland hits Lorcan with a powerslam and pins him for two.

Priest gets back in the ring and goes for The Reckoning on Holland, but Holland escapes and hits a gut-wrench suplex on Priest. Holland pins Priest, but Lorcan breaks up the pin. Holland picks up Lorcan and Lorcan hits Holland with some chops, but Holland takes Lorcan down with a forearm.

Lorcan gets back to his feet and hits Holland with chops and a pair of European uppercuts. Priest caught Lorcan and was looking for The Reckoning, but Lorcan evades and runs the ropes.

Holland catches him and turns him inside out with a clothesline, but Priest hits Holland with a single armed Choke-slam bomb. Priest waits for Lorcan to get to his feet and then hits Lorcan with The Reckoning, then pins him for the victory.

Winner: Damian Priest

Up next, Keith Lee vs. Cameron Grimes, right after this commercial break.

NXT Champion Keith Lee vs. Cameron Grimes

Out first, is Cameron Grimes as his entrance theme sounds in the arena. Grimes struts down the ramp towards the ring for tonight’s match up with NXT Champ, Keith Lee. “Oh bask in his glory!” The Limitless Keith Lee makes his way out next. Lee makes his way into the ring with Grimes. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and this singles match is officially underway!

Lee’s usual jovial demeanor is missing as Lee makes his way down to the ring. Lee calmly and slowly takes off his jacket to start the match. Grimes retreats to the corner and rolls out of the ring. The referee forces him back and Grimes gets back in the ring.

Grimes measures up Lee by dancing around him, but when Lee approaches, Grimes rolls out of the ring again and the referee forces Lee back. Grimes gets back in the ring and goes for a single leg take down on Lee, but Lee is unmoved. Lee gets Grimes in a front headlock, but tosses him to the ground when Grimes gets to the ropes.

Grimes hits Lee with a series of forearm strikes on Lee, but Lee grabs Grimes and tosses him into the ropes, then takes Grimes to the mat with a shoulder tackle. Lee grabs Grimes’ leg and pulls him into the middle of the ring. Grimes kicks Lee in the face and gets to his feet, then runs the ropes, but Lee takes Grimes down with a shoulder tackle again.

Lee whips Grimes hard into the corner, sending Grimes over the top rope and outside of the ring. Then, Lee smiles for the first time in the match and rolls out of the ring. Lee runs at Grimes, but Grimes hits Lee with a dropkick to the legs. Grimes pushes Lee into the steel ring steps, then hits a moonsault onto Lee from the top rope to the outside and we go to commercial.

Next, Grimes looking for the Upset. Then, Grimes again goes for the pin, using the ropes for leverage in the roll up, Lee is STILL able to kick out. Grimes throwing everything he can at Lee, including himself! Lee catches Grimes mid-air, Grimes lands on his feet as Lee goes for a Clothesline. Grimes slams into Lee, and lays across him for the cover. Again Lee kicks out. Grimes looks for the Caveman, Lee hoists Grimes up and drops him on the canvas.

Lee with a Double Hand Chop to the chest of Grimes, dropping him to the canvas. The crowd begins to chant to from Lee. Lee pulls Grimes to his feet just to Clothesline Grimes back to the canvas. Lee does the same thing again, still not letting go of Grimes’s hand/wrist. Spirit Bomb by Lee for the three count pin and win. Lee still with the serious look on his face as Lee was clearly sending a message to Karrion Kross.

Winner: Keith Lee

After the Match

The stadium goes black. Presumably, message received. Scarlett says something in German as Lee looks up the ramp, waiting to see her or Kross make their way to the stage. Suddenly the screen above the stage comes on and we see a close up of Kross’s face.

I haven’t seen Regal around here once since he signed me. Since you seem to be able to make things happen around here, this… is on you. The camera pans backwards as Kross is seen full view and the there are multiple bodies laid out on the floor around him. “Tick-Tock” Kross proclaims.

Undisputed Era members Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish spar and prepare for tonight’s match up.

NXT Loud Promo – Metallica “Moth Into The Flame”

Back from the break and we get a NXT Loud promo for Metallica’s “Moth Into The Flame” being the theme song for the “Takeover: XXX” event.

Video Clip – NXT General Manager William Regal Sends Message

Mauro sends us to a message from NXT General Manager William Regal. He puts over the action in the NXT North American Title Ladder Match qualifiers. Regal says Dexter Lumis will not be medically cleared due to his ankle injury.

He says Johnny Gargano and Finn Balor are also complaining about how they weren’t pinned before. He announces that the four Superstars who weren’t pinned in the earlier qualifiers, will compete in singles matches in two weeks. The winners of those two matches will earn the final two spots at Takeover.

In-Ring – Legado del Fantasma

We go back to the ring and out comes Legado del Fantasma – Raul Mendoza, Joaquin Wilde and NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar. Escobar speaks while Mendoza and Wilde drag Fandango out.

Escobar talks about the importance of lucha libre and how it’s unfortunate that people like Breezango exist. They bring Fandango in the ring now. Escobar says Breezango plays dress up every week and they mocked lucha libre culture at the Great American Bash. They mocked their families and spit in their faces as well. Tyler Breeze rushes the ring but Wilde and Mendoza beat him down.

Escobar addresses Isaiah “Swerve” Scott now and says this will be his future if he speaks his name again. The crowd continues booing. The music hits as Legado del Fantasma stands tall over Breezango, posing with the title.

We get a video package for tonight’s NXT Tag Team Titles match. Back to commercial.

Parking Lot – Damian Priest

Back from the break and Damian Priest is in the parking lot talking to a WWE camera man. He says the Ladder Match opportunity at Takeover was made for him. He goes on and says the Reign of Infamy will begin at Takeover. He’s asked about the Dexter Lumis injury and he says it sucks to be Lumis, but we all get into this business knowing the risk. Bronson Reed walks up and says he just wants to congratulate Priest. They end up having words and facing off. They agree to have a match, apparently next week.

Tegan Nox vs. Indi Hartwell

We go back to the ring and Pat McAfee has joined the announcers for commentary. Tegan Nox makes her way out first. Indi Hartwell is out next.

The bell rings and they meet in the middle of the ring. Hartwell starts screaming about how she’s defeated Shotzi Blackheart. Nox just responds with a big slap. Nox works Hartwell into the corner and works her over. Hartwell comes back with a side slam for a 2 count. Hartwell grounds Nox in the middle of the ring now. We see McAfee at the announce table with Tom now.

The crowd rallies as Nox fights up from the mat. Hartwell drops Nox with an elbow and covers for another 2 count. Hartwell grounds Nox on the mat again. More back and forth now. Nox mounts some offense and tackles Hartwell, unloading with strikes. Then, Nox unloads in the corner with kicks now as the referee warns her. Nox with a cannonball in the corner. Nox hits the Shiniest Wizard out of nowhere for the pin to win.

Winner: Tegan Nox

After the Match

Nox gets up as her music hits. We go to replays.

Backstage – Imperium

We see Imperium backstage getting ready for the main event. McAfee says he’s sticking around for the match. Back to commercial.

Back from the break and added to next week’s show is Bronson Reed vs. Damian Priest, plus Karrion Kross vs. Danny Burch.

Main Event – NXT Tag Team Titles Match 
The Undisputed Era vs. Imperium

It’s time for the main event as NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium heads to the ring – Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner. Out next are The Undisputed Era – Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish with Adam Cole and Roderick Strong.

Aichner and O’Reilly start things off in the middle of the ring, trading big strikes. They also trade big boots and more back & forth. O’Reilly drops Aichner as Cole cheers him on from ringside. Fish ends up coming in and going at it with Aichner. Aichner with a big back-breaker for a 2 count. Aichner grounds Fish now. Barthel comes in next and keeps Fish down.

O’Reilly comes in as Fish gets an opening. McAfee may be building to more heat with Cole on commentary as the announcers warn him. Fish comes back in but Imperium nails a big double team to keep him down. Barthel and Aichner stand tall over Fish as we go to commercial.

Back from the break and Cole stares at McAfee while Aichner wrestles with Fish on the mat, keeping control. Cole must have heard McAfee’s shots on commentary. Fish ends up dropping Barthel on the apron and then back-dropping Aichner to the floor. Aichner comes back in and Fish hits a big back-drop. O’Reilly and Barthel tag in at the same time as the action continues. Mauro says McAfee has caused Phoenix to leave commentary tonight.

O’Reilly unloads on Barthel and rocks him in the corner. O’Reilly fights off both champions now. Cole cheers them on but is focused on McAfee. O’Reilly sends Aichner to the floor and hits a Dragon Screw leg whip on Barthel in the corner. Next, O’Reilly goes on and nails a flying knee drop to Barthel’s leg. O’Reilly with a knee bar on Barthel now, forcing him to scream out in pain. Fish comes off the top with a diving headbutt to Barthel while he’s in the submission. Aichner with a big double springboard moonsault to free his partner from the hold. Everyone is down in the ring now as the crowd rallies.

Cole walks over to McAfee and says he can hear him. McAfee says he was just joking but Cole says it’s not funny. Cole walks off but McAfee calls him an angry little elf. McAfee takes water from a bottle to the face and chest by Cole. Cole tells McAfee to do something about it. Officials get in between them, including WWE Hall of Famers Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

O’Reilly is distracted on the apron, allowing Aichner to nail him from behind. Fish also gets rocked. Imperium hits the big double team European Bomb from the corner on Fish, covering him to retain the titles in the middle of the ring.

Winners: Imperium

After the Match

Imperium stands tall as their music hits. McAfee and Cole are still having words at ringside as officials keep them apart. McAfee walks back over as we hear him tell Cole that no matter what he will always be a tiny, little, itty-bitty bitch for the rest of his life. Cole is furious and wants to fight.

McAfee, a former NFL punter, takes advantage of Cole being down by the announce table, and runs up with a big punt kick to the face. Officials order McAfee out of the arena as he yells about how unprofessional this place is. Cole is shown laid out, face-down. Michaels calls for a doctor and checks on Cole as NXT goes off the air.
