The 2011 edition of the Royal Rumble match was a special one as it was the first-ever Royal Rumble match to have 40 participants in the match. CM Punk was certainly one of the highlights in that year’s Royal Rumble match.
During the 2011 Royal Rumble match, CM Punk was still a leader of The Nexus stable. The Second City Saint came out as the #1 entrant in the match but was attacked by The Corre, who was feuding with The Nexus.
The anonymous RAW General Manager stopped the attack and threatened to disqualify both the Corre and the Nexus from the Royal Rumble match. After that, Daniel Bryan, who was the WWE United States Champion came out as the #2 entrant in the match.
Punk had an incredible showing in the match as he lasted the longest, clocking in at around thirty-five minutes. He also had seven eliminations, eliminating the likes of Bryan, John Morrison, Mark Henry, Chris Masters and more.
A fan recently took to Twitter and posted a photo of Punk in the 2011 Royal Rumble match. The fan said that sometimes little things make pro wrestling great. He then praised Punk for his performance in the match.
Sometimes the little things make wrestling great. Never noticed the stigmata marks on @CMPunk during the 2011 RR. Great stuff.
CM Punk replied to the tweet, saying that he is wrestling Jesus.
Wrestling jesus. Often imitated. Cult of Personality.
