It looks like we may be seeing a new move for WWE programming. This move would be for the blue brand, WWE Smackdown. Could this rumor be true? Will a new night boost ratings that the WWE needs to continues to pull ahead of the AEW brand? Let’s take a look here. Kevin Owens Told WWE Writer To ‘Bury’ Smackdown Star.
This news comes to us on the side of the wrestling world as the NFL has recently announced a ten year rights fee deal today that sees FOX lose the Thursday night games starting in the year of 2023. This move would then open up a spot for Smackdown to move up a night if FOX wanted to go that route with their scheduling. If we look at the viewership and audience numbers, it does seem that Thursday is a more watched night of the week for TV Networks so a move may be considered by WWE and FOX.
It should also be said that the strategy that Fox has for Smackdown was to have it lead in to its sports programming on the weekends so it could stay where it’s at as far as current schedule goes. WWE Smackdown has increased viewership on Fridays since its debut. Fox and WWE may decide to just leave things as they are and not change anything. As of now, there is no news on an actual move.
