President Joe Biden announced the U.S. will be airdropping humanitarian aid into Gaza as civilians face mass starvation and lack of medical supplies via Mediaite.

During an Oval Office meeting with the prime minister of Italy, Biden confirmed the plans to help Gazans amid temporary cease-fire negotiations in the Israel-Hamas War.

“Innocent people got caught in a terrible war, unable to feed their families, and you saw the response when they tried to get aid. And we need to do more, and the United States will do more,” the president said.

He added, “In the coming days, we’re going to join with our friends in Jordan and others in providing airdrops of additional food and supplies into [Gaza].”

The announcement has come after a day after more than 100 people were killed and 760 were wounded after IDF troops reportedly opened fire on a group of civilians gathering for food aid trucks in western Gaza City.

“The truth is, aid flowing to Gaza is nowhere nearly enough now. It’s nowhere nearly enough. Innocent lives are on the line and children’s lives are on the line,” Biden concluded.

Biden also noted there was no excuse for Israel not to help “facilitate” more aid “for the entire Gaza Strip.”

The White House has been in talks for a temporary pause in fighting over the last month to secure the release of the remaining hostages captured during the October 7th attack in Israel. Airdrops of food, medicine, water, and other supplies will provide aid in areas of Gaza where the fighting between Israel and Hamas are most intense.
