Donald Trump’s friend Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently feels that the “clock has started” after she filed a motion to vacate House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) via Mediaite.
Greene spoke to the reporters following the filing of her motion. Greene opposed Johnson for his support of a $1.2 trillion spending package that passed the House on Friday. Johnson had highlighted conservative policy wins in the bill, including proposed cuts to the IRS, but many Republican House members blasted the bill as a failure, including Greene.
She stated on Friday that Republicans promised with their majority to bring back “regular order” to the House.
“Speaker Johnson has betrayed that by passing three [continuing resolutions] and then forcing us to vote on a two-part omnibus, the second one being today. He also only gave us, I mean, I don’t even know, we had one day basically to read 1,000 pages, breaking the 72-hour rule,” she said. “This is a betrayal of the American people. This is a betrayal of Republican voters. And the bill that we were forced to vote on, forced Republicans to still choose between funding to pay our soldiers and in doing so, funding late term abortion. This bill was basically a dream and a wishlist for Democrats and for the White House, it was completely led by Chuck Schumer, not our Republican Speaker of the House, not our conference. And we weren’t even allowed amendments to the floor.”
In addition to this, Greene said her motion to vacate is a “warning and a pink slip” and explained that there is no time frame for a vote as she does not want to repeat the lengthy process to oust Kevin McCarthy. She clarified that she believes thinks it’s time for Johnson to leave.
“I am saying the clock has started, it’s time for our conference to choose a new speaker,” she said.
Greene claimed she did not want to throw her conference into “chaos.”
“I filed the motion to vacate today, but it’s more of a warning and a pink slip,” she said. “I respect our conference. I paid all my dues to my conference. I’m a member in good standing and I do not wish to inflict pain on our conference and to throw — throw the House in chaos, but this is basically a warning and it’s time for us to go through the process, take our time and find a new Speaker of the House that will stand with Republicans and our Republican majority instead of standing with with the Democrats.”
