Trump Backtracks After Cheating Accusation

Former President Donald Trump is taking a different approach when it comes to voting in the nation’s elections via Mediaite.

It has been noted that Trump famously warned against absentee voting ahead of the 2020 election with cheating allegations – except in Florida because “the election system is Safe and Secure,” he said.

The outcome for Trump and Republicans in the 2020 election were disastrous, as they lost the White House and the Senate while failing to retake the House. It is noted that in the 2022 midterms, predictions of a “red wave” fell well short, as Republicans saw but a ripple that was barely enough to gain control of the lower chamber. Meanwhile, the GOP lost a Senate seat.

These developments have prompted some soul-searching among GOP leadership – including the Republican National Committee – which is coming around to the idea of using various means to cast ballots.

On his Truth Social platform on Friday night, the former president smashed the CAPS lock button before writing:

ABSENTEE VOTING, EARLY VOTING, AND ELECTION DAY VOTING ARE ALL GOOD OPTIONS. REPUBLICANS MUST MAKE A PLAN, REGISTER, AND VOTE!

Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law who now co-chairs the RNC, has been advocating a multifaceted approach to voting in future elections.

“We have to start encouraging Republican voters to do things like voting early, trust mail-in voting,” she told NBC News last month. “These are ways that we actually can have a big lead as we head into Election Day. And these are things that traditionally Republicans have sort of shied away from.”

Mail-in voting has long been a bugaboo for the former president, who attacked the practice before the 2020 election that he would ultimately lose.

“The fraud and abuse will be an embarrassment to our Country,” he tweeted in August 2020.
