All Elite Wrestling returns with a special Tag Team Appreciation Night theme hosted by FTR and featuring several pro wrestling legends appearing.
Also on tap for tonight’s AEW Dynamite show is the latest TNT Championship “Open Challenge” from “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, as he defends his new, finished version of the title belt design against Scorpio Sky.
Additionally, the AEW Tag-Team Championships will be on-the-line when “Hangman” Adam Page and Kenny Omega defend against Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy of Jurassic Express, and a big featured tag-team match pitting The Young Bucks against Dark Order will take place.

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS (8/12/2020)
This week’s show opens up with an extended video package as Tag Team Appreciation Week is here, with tonight’s special AEW Dynamite Tag-Team Appreciation Week hosted by FTR.
After the elaborate video opener, we shoot inside Daily’s Place where pyro goes off and Jim Ross welcomes us to this week’s show on commentary.
The Young Bucks vs. Dark Order
From there, the announce team of Ross, Tony Schiavone and Taz tell us that it’s time to get right down to it, as Tag Team Appreciation Week kicks off with a big tag-team contest.
We then hear the familiar theme song of The Young Bucks as Matt and Nick Jackson make their way down to the ring. Before they can make it all the way to the ring, however, they are attacked out of nowhere from behind by Dark Order.
After the chaos clears up, things settle with Dark Order dominating the action as we finally get inside the squared circle and the bell sounds to kick off tonight’s AEW Dynamite opening contest.
Matt Jackson is taking the brunt of the beating from Dark Order, as Stu Grayson and Evil Uno appear to be focusing their offensive attack on the back of The Young Bucks member. The action spills out to the floor and the duo of Grayson and Uno continue to focus on the back of Matt, driving it into the ring apron hard.
Back in the ring, Matt is finally starting to show signs of life. And after a lengthy run of being the tackle dummy for Grayson and Uno for the first several minutes of this opening bout, Matt finally makes the tag to the fresher Nick Jackson. Nick takes the hot tag and comes in clearing house of anything Dark, mask-wearer-or-not. Equal opportunity ass-kicking from ole’ Nicholas J.
The Dark Order members surround one of the Bucks now but he uses some crafty moving to get around them and back into the ring to continue the match. The Dark Order appear to be back in a comfortable offensive lead now, as Nick Jackson is now the one on the receiving end of an ass-kicking from Grayson and Uno, who continue to utilize quick tags to keep a fresh guy on Nick.
The Dark Order are definitely in charge of this match and now the action is getting out of hand again, with The Dark Order getting Matt Jackson lured out to the aisle way where the match unofficially started before it hit the ring. They keep Matt blocked from getting back to the ring and now Grayson and Uno go to work on Nick in the ring.
Then like Taz says, by the skin-of-his-teeth, Nick Jackson avoids a Fatality attempt from Uno and Grayson, and with Grayson too far away to get to them, Nick reverses and hits Uno with a nice counter. He covers him and gets the three right as Grayson leaped over to attempt to break up the pin. The Young Bucks with a nice win in the opener on AEW Dynamite Tag Team Appreciation Week tonight.

MJF Makes His Way Out …
After The Young Bucks celebrate their victory, we shoot to a quick backstage segment. Maxwell Jacob Friedman is shown with some of his entourage, and he looks as arrogant as ever this week, folks.
He makes some cocky remarks and starts walking towards what appears to be the entrance to the ring inside the Daily’s Place amphitheater. He tells someone to “get out of his camera shot” with a real smug attitude, prompting a reaction from “Good Ole’ J.R.” on commentary.
Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone & Taz Look At Tonight’s Card
The announce trio of Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and Taz then start breaking down each match and segment scheduled for tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite, as the road to ALL OUT 2020 continues.
Backstage: “Hangman” Page & Kenny Omega
From there, we shoot to a quick backstage segment where we see “Hangman” Adam Page and Kenny Omega of The Elite seated together.
The reigning AEW World Tag-Team Champions, who are scheduled to defend those titles against Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy of Jurassic Express later in tonight’s show as part of “Tag Team Appreciation Week.”
After they talk among themselves for a brief moment, we hear the theme song of none other than the number one contender to the AEW World Championship in the singles division, MJF. As Friedman makes his way out, the AEW Dynamite announce trio lead us into a commercial break.
MJF’s A State Of The Wrestling Industry Speech
We return from the break and we see MJF standing at a podium with his campaign crew, all of whom are standing on a red carpet that is laid out in the ring. There is an American flag in the background and some others as well. A very political looking set-up this week for ole’ MJF.
MJF asks us to use the following hash-tags on Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms this evening: #MJF2020 #NotMyChampion.
MJF’s assistant Nina is then introduced and she shows the “poll numbers” for MJF and Jon Moxley ahead of their scheduled AEW World Championship match at the upcoming AEW ALL OUT 2020 pay-per-view.
Friedman then goes into a rant about “Dictator Jon,” which is what MJF is referring to Moxley as throughout this promo. He talks about how Moxley is only kind to wrestlers who are willing to “look at the lights for him.”
MJF stops his speech and then lays down. He lays on his back and asks Moxley if this is better, now that he’s laid out for him. He taunts Moxley for a while, talking trash to him while he continues to lay on his back. This lasts for several moments as MJF talks about Moxley needing to “fork the keys over” to him, someone who is better than him — and he knows it. He says Jon knows, he knows and the folks watching at home knows that “we deserve better.”
He finishes up with that comment and then sits up only to immediately hear the theme song of AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. MJF instructs his campaign crew to run around the Daily’s Place amphitheater throughout all the various spots in the stands to cut off Moxley so he can’t make it to the ring. As MJF watches and yells further instructions as we continue to hear the theme of Moxley playing, finally the AEW World Champion emerges from the regular entrance tunnel.
Moxley makes his way down to the ring while all of MJF’s campaign crew are way too far away to get to the ring in time. Moxley then starts blasting MJF with big shots, culminating with a big Paradigm Shift to the number one contender.
The AEW World Champion heads to the back through the same entrance tunnel he initially emerged from. He grabs a microphone once he gets backstage and says this is not it, and he and MJF are not even by a long shot. He vows to pay him back further as his music plays.
MJF remains laid out in the ring yelling and screaming in pain while Moxley’s music is still playing. He is clutching at his shoulder and he tells his campaign crew not to touch him. He says he can’t stand up. He’s being extra, extra dramatic, and it’s definitely entertaining.
Backstage: Matt Hardy Vows To End Sammy Guevara
Backstage we see an AEW broadcast team member standing by with none other than Matt Hardy.
Hardy talks briefly in a quick backstage segment about when he will finally be cleared to return and he goes on to promise to “end Sammy.”
He sees someone walking by who he thinks is “The Spanish God” of the Inner Circle himself, however it was not Sammy Guevara at all. It was AEW referee Mike Posey.
The poor bastard got a vicious beatdown from a confused Matt, who the interviewer was asking “are you sure you’re okay?!” before he made the mistake and freaked out, beating up AEW referee Mike Posey on accident.
TNT Championship
Scorpio Sky vs. Cody (c)
After the Matt Hardy segment, we shoot back inside the Daily’s Place amphitheater where we see a door in front of the entrance tunnel.
It gets knocked down and we see Scorpio Sky emerge from the door-way as the announcers point out the obvious — which is that Sky literally kicked the door down on his way to the ring for his first big opportunity on his new journey as a singles competitor after achieving AEW Tag-Team Championship success as part of SoCal Uncensored (SCU).
As Sky continues to make his way to the ring, we head to a commercial break. When we return, we hear the familiar theme song of “The American Nightmare.”
With that said, TNT Champion Cody Rhodes emerges with his entourage — Arn Anderson, Brandi Rhodes and co. “The American Nightmare” poses as the announcers point out that he is wearing the newly designed, completed version of the TNT Championship title belt.
The newly designed TNT Title is up-for-grabs next here on AEW Dynamite, as Cody and Scorpio Sky are now both in the ring and ready to go.
We are told that former WWE referee Mike Chioda will be making his All Elite Wrestling debut as the official for this week’s TNT Championship “Open Challenge.” The bell sounds and this one gets underway.
Each guy has their moments early on, but it is Sky who starts to pull out in front of the champ, taking the offensive lead as the announce trio lead us into a mid-match commercial break.
When we return, Sky is still dominating the action while the announcers put him over super strong as a new legitimate competitor in the men’s singles division in AEW. Sky is taking it to “The American Nightmare” until he finally starts making his comeback.
Cody hits Sky with some big shots and then blasts him out of nowhere with his Cross Rhodes finisher. He covers Sky, however the former SCU member somehow manages to kick out as two-and-a-half. The announcers question whether or not anyone has ever kicked out of the Cross Rhodes before.
Sky starts fighting his way back into the bout, getting some near falls on the champion before ultimately “The American Nightmare” manages to catch Scorpio with another Cross Rhodes. This time, however, Sky isn’t able to kick out. Cody gets the 1-2-3 from new AEW referee Mike Chioda and he retains the newly designed TNT Championship title belt.

After The Match: The Dark Order Confronts Cody
As the theme song of “The American Nightmare” plays, we hear someone talking and then we see it is none other than “The Exalted One” himself, Mr. Brodie Lee.
Lee comes out with some of his Dark Order entourage and talks about how winners get to write the story in the history books for all future generations to read. He goes on to vow that Cody will pay for getting involved in Dark Order’s business.
He tells Cody his time is up.
Private Party Backstage
Backstage we see Private Party talking before we head back down to ringside for our second of two championship matches, as the Tag Team Appreciation theme continues in our next contest.
AEW World Tag-Team Championships
Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy vs. “Hangman” Page & Kenny Omega (c)
From there, we hear the theme music of Jurassic Express, as Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy make their way out of the entrance tunnel and head down to the squared circle for our next match of the evening here on AEW Dynamite.
As the Jurassic Express duo finishes up their ring walk, we head to a commercial break. They will challenge for the AEW World Tag-Team Championships when AEW on TNT returns from the break.
Alright we’re back from the break and we see “Hangman” Adam Page make his way out of the entrance tunnel and head down to the ring. His music fades down and then the theme of Kenny Omega plays and he joins him and they enter the ring.
The teams settle into their respective corners as the ring announcer does the formal introductions for this championship contest. The bell sounds and this match is now officially underway.
Jungle Boy and Kenny Omega kick things off for their respective teams. As they lock up, before they can get things going, Marko Stunt jumps up on the apron wearing a goofy bucket hat, which Taz says he likes on commentary.
J.R. is upset and shouts for Stunt to get down and for them to get him out of here. He does get down, however he does not get out of here. He remains here, as does his goofy-ass(ed) bucket hat.
Anyways, the action finally gets going for real in the ring now, as Omega slaps a side head lock on Jungle Boy and takes him to the mat. Omega gets in some offense until Jungle Boy manages to buy himself some time and make a tag to the big masked-reptile-man.
Luchasaurus enters the ring and immediately blasts Omega so hard in the snout that the announcers question whether or not Luchasaurus broke Omega’s nose. As the action continues, Omega is definitely selling the nose a lot. Jungle Boy ends up tagging himself in when Luchasaurus was beating on Omega on their side of the ring.
As Jungle Boy goes to work on Omega, the announcers speculate that Omega is definitely injured, questioning if he landed on his face during a previous spot. Now we see “Hangman” Adam Page, much like Jungle Boy on the opposing team moments ago, tag himself into the match when Omega and Jungle Boy fight over to the champions’ corner of the ring.
The action gets crazy now, as the champs make another tag but this time, both “Hangman” and Omega remain in the ring and double-team Jungle Boy. The Jurassic Express member starts fighting them both by himself, hitting super kicks and chops as he turns to his left and right over-and-over again in the ring. The action spills to the floor with Page and Omega hitting dives onto Jungle Boy on the floor.
The announce trio leads us into a special mid-match, picture-in-picture commercial break with the weekly special hash-tag you’re supposed to look for. As the commercials air, on the other side of the screen we see Jungle Boy as the victim of a prolonged beating, stuck in the ring with Omega and Page taking turns delivering punishing offense to their smaller foe.
We return from the break to see Luchasaurus in the ring now, as is Omega, and both guys are moving slow. Omega gets up and leans on the ropes as the camera pans over to show “Hangman” rolling Jungle Boy into the ring and following him in. Taz tells us the legal man for the champions is “Hangman” Adam Page. He and Omega are both in the ring delivering double-team offense to Luchasaurus.
Jungle Boy tries making the save with a hurricanrana but he gets blocked and slammed down to the mat. Now “Hangman” goes for the Buckshot on Luchasaurus, however the Jurassic Express member saw it coming and Page ate a big shot for his effort. Jungle Boy hits a dive to the floor. Marko Stunt ends up getting involved again, hitting a high spot from the top-rope to the floor on Omega.
Meanwhile, back in the ring, “Hangman” is by himself on his knees while Jungle Boy blasts him with stiff kicks. Luchasaurus is blasting him with shots as well. They go for a pin, however Omega finally rolls into the ring to break it up. We see Jungle Boy launched out to the floor, as he goes flying like a rag-doll out to the floor. Omega hits a crazy backwards dive of his own to the outside of the ring to follow-up.
We see a Buckshot V-Trigger combo — The Last Call — from Page and Omega, which leads to the pin fall and the victory for the duo from The Elite. The theme of Omega plays as “Hangman” and Omega are handed their AEW Tag-Team Titles after a hard-fought victory here on AEW Dynamite Tag Team Appreciation.

Backstage: Santana & Ortiz Trash Best Friends’ Stuff
After trashing the vehicle of the mother of Trent from the Best Friends tag-team on AEW Dynamite last week, we once again see Inner Circle duo Proud ‘N’ Powerful with bad intentions.
They mock Trent and Chuck for demanding an apology from them for trashing Trent’s mom Sue’s van on last week’s show. They then reveal that they have all of the gear of Trent and Chuck.
Santana and Ortiz hold up the bags and suitcases, etc. that belong to Trent and Chuck of the Best Friends, and they proceed to trash it. After this, we head to another commercial break.
Tag Team Appreciation with The Young Bucks, FTR, Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard
When we return from the break we see a number of excellent tag-team wrestlers standing inside the ring, as Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson, Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson (The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express), as well as Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson (The Young Bucks), and Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler (FTR).
First off, Nick and Matt talk. They put over the four legends in the ring — Tully, Arn, Ricky and Robert, and talk about their memories of some of their matches and history in the business. Then we hear from FTR, who does the same.
Next, Ricky Morton cuts a promo putting over all the guys. Then Arn Anderson gets a turn on the mic and says he doesn’t blow smoke, because it leaves a bad taste in his mouth. He goes on to call Harwood and Wheeler, FTR, the best tag-team in the business today.
Tully Blanchard then demands the microphone and once he gets it, he puts his hands on Arn Anderson, demanding to know what “this is,” pointing to the logo on his sweater. Anderson then takes the mic and says he can see where this is going and he says that’s his cue to leave.
Good foreshadowing by the veteran “Enforcer,” as seconds later things stopped being pleasant and turned violent as a lot of the guys start trading shots.
After things settle down, we see FTR hit The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express with some cheap shots, including one of their top-rope double-team finishers. They leave them laying as the announcers go crazy questioning why FTR did what they just did.
Backstage: Mike Chioda Gets An Offer From “Le Champion”
Backstage, Alex Marvez is standing by with longtime pro wrestling official, former veteran WWE referee Mike Chioda. As they talk, in walks “Le Champion” of the Inner Circle — Chris Jericho.
Jericho talks with Chioda briefly, joking around with him before strongly alluding that when the time comes in his match against Orange Cassidy, which headlines tonight’s AEW Dynamite, then he will give him the sign to do what’s right.
Chioda says he’s gonna call it right down the middle. Jericho says that’s cool, call it whatever you want, but make sure to do the right thing when the time comes. On that note, we head to a commercial break.
Hikaru Shida vs. Heather Monroe (Non-Title Match)
We’re back from the break and now it’s time for some action in the AEW women’s division.
Out comes AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida, as she makes her way down to the squared circle for non-title one-on-one action on this week’s AEW Dynamite.
Squaring off against the AEW Women’s World Champion in this non-title affair will be none other than Heather Monroe.
The bell sounds and here we go. Monroe goes right to work on Shida, they end up on the rope, but Monroe with the cheap shot. She chokes Shida over the middle rope and swings away. Shida sent into the rope, rising knee strikes and throws punches on a grounded Monroe.
Now we see the champ lands a big move before she charges in the corner, only to find nobody home. Then, Shida lands a kick before she goes up to the second rope, gets cut down and dropped to the mat for a near fall.
From there, the AEW Women’s top-queen slams Monroe into the corner of the ring with a big modified suplex. She follows up with some vicious blows to the dome of her opponent before snatching her arm up and locks it into an arm-trap Argentine leg-lock submission. Monroe eventually taps out and Shida gets the big win.
Winner: Hikaru Shida
Backstage: Jake “The Snake” Roberts & Lance Archer
After the women’s action we shoot backstage. Jake “The Snake” Roberts is with “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer, who beats the hell out of a random that happened to walk in front of them.
Meanwhile, Roberts talks about owning someone and they are afraid to make a move, that’s what instilling fear is.
As Roberts continues to talk, out of nowhere, Archer rips off the shirt of Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and we see that it reads, “Everybody Dies!” on the back of it.
On Tap For AEW Dynamite Next Week …
We shoot to the announce team who break down the action scheduled for next week’s edition of AEW Dynamite.
J.R., Schiavone and Taz announce the following for Saturday, August 22, 2020, the next time AEW on TNT returns on a special Saturday night showing. The show will be pre-empted due to the NBA Playoffs and the air-time will be either 6pm EST., or whenever the NBA Playoff game ends.

Orange Cassidy vs. Chris Jericho II
The “Freshly Squeezed” one makes his way out as it’s time for the match everybody has been waiting for — the $7,000 Obligation match pitting Orange Cassidy one-on-one against “Le Champion” of Inner Circle, Chris Jericho.
The highly anticipated rematch is up next as it serves as this week’s main event on AEW Dynamite.
When we return from the break, the leader of the Inner Circle makes his way down to the ring after a seemingly never-ending commercial break that saw some miscommunication timing errors between the AEW production staff and Sammy Guevara, who was doing his flipping-through-signs gimmick to send messages without audio during picture-in-picture commercial breaks.
Jericho and Cassidy are now both in the ring and the $7,000 Obligation match, featuring Mike Chioda as the referee, is now officially underway.
The bell sounds and here we go. These two go right at it. Cassidy goes to put his hands in his pockets and fakes out Jericho, ducking a punching and swinging away on “Le Champion” with ferocious strikes.
Next, we see a big flying shoulder block from Cassidy that takes out Jericho. He follows that up with a big clothesline that sends Jericho out to the floor.
Cassidy comes sailing from the ring to the floor, executing a perfect cross-body splash on the Inner Circle’s top dog, before following up with more vicious blows on the outside of the ring.
The brawl continues on the floor now, as the two move their way around the ring and we see Jericho get thrown into the side of the stage. In a crazy spot, Cassidy heads to the top, puts his hands in his pockets, and leaps off, landing right on Jericho in a wild, ballsy move. The announcers put it over as exactly that, too.
Cassidy and Jericho work their way back into the ring where Cassidy blasts “Le Champion” with a nice DDT off the ropes and then a few Superman punches. Jericho fights back with some chops before dropkicking the “Freshly Squeezed” one out to the floor.
Jericho hits a nice lionsault onto Cassidy and is taking over on the offensive side now as this week’s AEW Dynamite main event rematch between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy continues … right after these words.
We’re back from the final commercial break of the evening here on AEW on TNT and the pace and intensity of the action is noticably picking up now as this match is nearing its’ conclusion with the ten o’clock hour rapidly approaching.
Jericho executes a nice Codebreaker on Cassidy back in the ring and goes for the cover, but only gets two. Things get even more hectic now and in all the insanity, Cassidy hits a beautiful Falcon Arrow on Jericho for a near fall. He hits a big kick and another Superman punch to follow-up.
Now with a very fired up Orange Cassidy, we see the dastardly duo of Santana & Ortiz making their way out, looking to spoil Cassidy’s party right as he appeared to be nearing victory. Before they can do anything, however, Cassidy gets an assist in the form of the Best Friends, as Chuck Taylor and Trent run out to make the save, taking out Proud ‘N’ Powerful as they brawl on the entrance stage.
Jericho seemed to call for referee Mike Chioda to play ball as he alluded to during their backstage interview segment prior to this match, and although it appears that the former WWE referee is going to actually do what “Le Champion” requested, however he ultimately does not. Instead, Cassidy avoids a Judas Effect from Jericho after a big low-blow spot following a run-in and cheap shot from Jake Hager. After the missed Judas Effect, Cassidy catches Jericho with the Mouse-Trap for the pin and the shocking upset victory.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
AEW Dynamite Outro
