AEW Star Rips WWE Message After Daffney Death

It was recently reported on Thursday that former WCW and Impact Wrestling wrestler Daffney Unger sadly passed away at the age of 46, after succumbing to a battle with mental health. Following this tragedy, WWE sent out a message via text to the entirety of their roster offering mental health counseling. Daffney was known in World Championship Wrestling from 1999 to 2001, where she would be the manager of David Flair and Crowbar. In addition, it was reported that the police were looking for Daffney.

She would later make appearances in Impact Wrestling parodying Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as ‘The Governor’, later adapting back into her old Daffney persona in April of 2009. She would stay with impact until 2011.

According to PW Insider, the text message stated the following.

“As a reminder to our Talent, if you are dealing with a difficult personal matter and would like to speak with someone to get the support you need, please don’t hesitate to contact [Counseling Company Name Withheld] at [NUMBER DELETED] or WWE Medical.”

After the text was sent, several notable members of wrestling media would pick up on the story including Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp. Current AEW and Impact Wrestling roster star Karl Anderson would respond to him by bashing WWE in a now deleted tweet stating: “They suck bro.”

Unger’s passing was confirmed by her family while SHIMMER wrestling would send out the following.

“We are very sad to have to announce the passing of Shannon Spruill aka Daffney Unger @screamqueendaff. We are posting this at the request of her family. Please respect their privacy at this trying time. I will miss you my logical sister from another mister.” -Lexie Fyfe
