AEW Stealing Ex-WWE Champion After Departure?

Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks could be moving to AEW in the near future. Banks has been away from WWE for a few months now. Banks and Naomi had allegedly walked out of Monday Night RAW few months back due to creative differences. There have been various sides to the story already reported, including that the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions confronted then the WWE Chairman Vince McMahon over their issue.

According to a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sasha Banks is still under contract with WWE even now. That being said, a WWE return date is dependent on “hang-ups” in negotiations. Konnan said on Keepin’ It 100 that Sasha Banks told his friends in Mexico that she’d return to wrestling in early 2023 after finishing outside projects.

PWInsider dropped a bombshell story on Banks’ future in wrestling, reporting that The Boss would be appearing at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4. When asked for comment regarding whether or not she would be appearing at the NJPW January 4th show, Wrestle Kingdom 17 there was a conspicuous silence. According to the report, typically if rumors are false they are quickly rebuffed by their NJPW however with this particular question, they would not confirm nor deny.

Sasha Banks might join AEW as well

An update has also emerged on the matter. Fightful Select noted that the report of Banks appearing at an NJPW event has opened up all sorts of scenarios, and several AEW talents are “excited” over the possibility of Banks joining the promotion. Fightful also quoted an anonymous AEW source as saying that Banks could be the answer to AEW’s dwindling television ratings.

“One [AEW] source quickly agreed they thought that having Sasha Banks on their show weekly is another “anchor” for their women’s division, something that could kick start interest in it, and feel would significantly help viewership,” added the report from Fightful.
