WWE backstage news on contract season lasting longer this year

Because of the ongoing pandemic, everything is different and uncertain this year. Almost nothing has happened in WWE and other pro wrestling promotions like it usually does in other years.

Events have taken place in empty arenas, touring has come to a standstill, and Superstars have been released unexpectedly.

Now Fightful Select has reported that the contract season might go on longer and deals for multiple Superstars could come up at the beginning of next year.

WWE contracts to be “spread out”

Fightful Select has learned from sources that IMPACT Wrestling will join New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor in terminating contracts by the end of the year.

“We’ve been told to expect “contract season” to last much longer this year. Typically, a bunch of wrestling contracts are up at the end of the year specifically for New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor, but there are some IMPACT deals coming due at that time as well.”

Multiple AEW deals are due to come up in the first half of next year

The report also says that WWE contracts, which are usually over around WrestleMania in April, could be either shortened or extended this time. This is likely to hurt the Superstars’ chances of swiftly moving on to other pro wrestling promotions, cutting short their options.
