We previously reported Drew Gulak had been released by WWE following reports from Pro Wrestling Sheet stating as such.
UPDATE:
It has been confirmed that Drew Gulak is officially a free agent. WWE decided to part ways with the former Cruiserweight Champion following contract monetary issues. Contrary to initial reports, Gulak’s contract expired, WWE did not release him.
Immediately following the Friday, May 15, 2020 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Gulak’s contract officially expired. Initial contract renewal negotiations took place, which ultimately led WWE to withdraw their initial contract offer once they received a raise request from Gulak.
Fans and co-stars alike were stunned by the revelation as Gulak’s last official WWE match was against Superstar Daniel Bryan who Gulak was currently mentoring, as an on-going story line for SmackDown. The match-up of Gulak vs. Bryan aired this past Friday, 5/15 on SmackDown, where he lost to friend, Daniel Bryan in an Intercontinental title tournament match.
Gulak originally signed with WWE in 2016, creating a gimmick for the 205 Live brand. Eventually he transitioned from 205 Live to SmackDown after losing his 205 Live Cruiserweight title in October of 2019. The recent Daniel Bryan story-line put Drew Gulak on the main stage rather than the enhancement talent circle.
The former Cruiserweight Champion can accept bookings or sign a deal with another company if he should so choose. Due to his contract expiration, he doesn’t have to abide by a 90-day no-compete clause. Any promotion would be lucky to sign Gulak, several of Gulak’s contemporaries took to social media to react to the Superstar’s unexpected free agency, giving word of encouragement and suggestions for the future alike.
You can now find Drew Gulak in the “alumni” section of the WWE.com website.
