Joe Rogan, host of the widely popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), is reportedly facing backlash for making anti-Semitic remarks during a recent episode of the show. According to reports, Rogan made a questionable comparison between Jewish people and their affinity for money, drawing criticism from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Spotify executives.

During episode #1936 of JRE, Rogan made the statement, “The idea Jewish people don’t like money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. It’s f*****g stupid.” ADL director Jonathan Greenblatt responded to Rogan’s remarks, calling out the podcaster for spreading anti-Semitic narratives and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

Spotify, which acquired exclusive rights to Rogan’s podcast in 2020 for a reported $200 million, has faced public pressure in the past for Rogan’s actions on the platform. In 2021, there were calls to de-platform Rogan after he suggested that healthy young Americans did not need to take the Covid-19 vaccine.

Now, according to a report by RADAR, Spotify executives are considering distancing themselves from Rogan due to his controversial remarks. The report suggests that top executives at the company are tired of apologizing on Rogan’s behalf and believe that walking away from him would be the best business decision.

It remains to be seen how Spotify will proceed with Rogan, but the controversy has once again brought attention to the responsibility that comes with having a large platform and the importance of being mindful of the impact of one’s words.

“Many execs believe walking away from him would be the best business decision.”
