John Cena has not been seen on WWE television since WrestleMania 36 in April 2020 after his loss to Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Funhouse Match, which was more of a cracked out David Lynch movie retrospective of Cena’s career than an actual wrestling match. Cena was set to have a big movie as an actor in 2020 with a ‘Fast and the Furious’ movie starring role, but the pandemic postponed the movie to 2021.
Cena finally returned to WWE television today as part of an announcement that WrestleMania 37 will take place in Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium, as originally planned last year. WrestleMania 38 will take place in Dallas at AT&T Stadium, while WrestleMania 39 will take place in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. WrestleMania 36 last year was originally scheduled to take place at LA’s new football stadium.
WrestleMania 37 will see tickets being sold to fans, with WWE stating, ““In coordination with local partners and government officials, WWE will announce ticket availability and safety protocols for WrestleMania 37 in the coming weeks. Information on additional WrestleMania Week events is forthcoming.” WWE have not held a show with fans since Raw on March 9, 2020.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon starred in the humorous WrestleMania locations announcement. John Cena’s last proper WWE matches took place in early January 2019, with a series of random appearances and matches on Raw and Smackdown, before he disappeared from WWE television prior to the Royal Rumble.
