John Cena is a 16-time WWE Champion and was the face of the company for well over a decade. Currently, Roman Reigns is one of the top champions in WWE being the Universal Champion. The two had a feud back in 2017, which blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality.
The two would clash at No Mercy 2017, which was one of the best matches of that year. Ultimately, it was Roman Reigns who won the match. After that, Cena became a part-timer due to his busy life in Hollywood.
During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio prior to the Royal Rumble, Meltzer talked about John Cena possibly squaring off against Roman Reigns again in a match
You know they could do Cena and Roman again. When they did Cena and Reigns they could have gone really far with it. When they did house show runs, they drew well above what house shows drew. It was a noticeable difference. It was the last ‘hot’ match. It would be a surprise and everything. it’s certainly a viable thing.
John Cena also stated on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, that he plans on returning to WWE as soon as he can.
“Oh yeah, I will [be back in WWE]! I just, unfortunately, you know… the state of the world, I mean, I’m not sitting there on the couch next to you. It’s a difficult and unpredictable time, and right now, I’m doing this. I’m filming ‘Peacemaker’, and that’s going to take a lot of my time, and I can’t bounce back and forth due to international restrictions. So at least for the time being, I’m here, and I’m still away from WWE, but I very much look forward to returning as soon as I possibly can.”
