Former Donald Trump attorney Jordan Sekulow recently revealed to Newsmax that New York Attorney General Letitia James is “absolutely” aiming at Trump’s New York properties, and she might even go outside the state to seize properties to cover a nearly-$500 million bond the former president was ordered to pay after his New York fraud civil trial via Mediaite.
Lawyers for Trump recently stated in a court filing that getting a bond of $464 million is a “practical impossibility.” James’s office has snubbed this claim, stating, “as far as the Court can infer, sureties may have refused to accept defendants’ specific holdings as collateral because using Mr. Trump’s real estate will generally need ‘a property appraisal’ … and his holdings are not nearly as valuable as defendants claim.”
Sekulow, a former counsel for Trump during his impeachment trial, joined Newsmax and called his former client the “number one trophy” for James.
“Do you really expect Letitia James to actually move forward with taking over Trump properties in New York?” Newsmax host Rob Finnerty asked.
“Absolutely, I do, because that’s the model of Letitia James is to politically take down Donald Trump and she feels like this image, I believe, of taking over the buildings, padlocking the doors, taking the Trump signs off and freezing his assets will ultimately kind of take away the veneer that surrounds President Trump,” Sekulow said.
Sekulow predicted that Trump’s appeal will not lead to the charges being overturned, but perhaps to the bond he owes being drastically lowered. He also predicted James could take a quest to seize Trump properties “nationwide,” perhaps even Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Florida property.
