Oscar de la Hoya Caught ‘Lying’ About Canelo Alvarez

It was just recently that Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. stepped in the ring for the last time that he ever would when he went up against Hector Camacho Jr inside of four rounds. Chavez Sr. is, of course, widely regarded as the greatest Mexican fighter of all time, but the man sitting at ringside for that event was four division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. As the historic fight between Chavez Sr. and Camacho Jr. came to a conclusion, Canelo shared an emotional moment in the ring with the renowned Hall of Famer. There were numerous outlets that claimed Chavez Sr. was “passing the torch” to Canelo, who is currently regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.

Oscar De La Hoya had some words to say about the news that buzzed through the internet as De La Hoya and Canelo have taken shots at each other during interviews.

De La Hoya stated: “I know Julio Cesar Chavez and I know he didn’t mean that,” said De La Hoya to Fino Boxing. I know Chavez, he is my compadre. I don’t believe it. I think that in terms of passing the torch, that fighter hasn’t been born yet from Mexico. Those are very big shoes to fill. I know Chavez. Honestly, I know he didn’t say that.”

Fans on Reddit stated things such as: “Is Oscar a sea ? cuz the saltiness keeps coming in waves.” “Oscar need to lay off the drugs.” “Oscar has been slipping into being a total clown over the years, but now he’s just genuinely unlikeable.”

Special thanks to Boxing Scene for the news.
