Paige’s Return In AEW Already In Jeopardy?

Paige moved out of wrestling in 2017 due to a freak accident. The accident took her out of work for a considerable time. She didn’t appear inside the ropes but did do different gigs as a WWE employee. WWE didn’t want to renew her contract when it was due for renewal this year and this was before Triple H took charge on July 25, 2022.

Paige didn’t make any move in telling her fans about her future plans, but chances are that she would have made peace with the situation and worked out a deal with AEW. Paige, whose real name is Saraya, debuted in AEW on the Dynamite Grand Slam episode on 21st September.

She received a huge pop upon her surprise debut. It’s because there was no speculation about it, but we reported it on our platform before it happened. Saraya is known for her wrestling skills. The inaugural NXT Women’s Champion has received a valuable response, but does it mean that she is cleared for in-ring action? Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter thinks otherwise. He said:

There is no answer to the question as to what role she will play, if she will wrestle regularly, sparingly, or not at all. She got an enormous surprise pop, but these types of things always get that reaction. Muta got a similar gigantic pop. Pops and surprises are cool, but their long-term value is nil if they cost a lot of money. If she is going to wrestle, and can go at her prior level, she will be a good addition. But it was notable in her run-in she didn’t touch anyone, and with WWE, not only was she not allowed to wrestle, but nobody was allowed to touch her.

We were told that she had not been cleared as of very recently, which would explain not touching anyone, but would like to be cleared. She is refereeing for her family’s WAW promtion in a few weeks.

It needs to be seen if AEW will put her in a story with Britt Baker or will she be in some other role until she laces up the boots for an in-ring performance.
