Shane McMahon ‘Retirement’ Match Rumor Leaks

Shane McMahon could have been the opponent of WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in his retirement match back in 2019. The Olympic Gold Medalist had many classic matches against several opponents and McMahon would be a great opponent for Angle.

However, it was Baron Corbin who was the final opponent of Angle and they collided at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. While, Shane went on to defeat The Miz in singles competition at the event. According to several fans, this was a disappointing final match as he had wished to face John Cena in his retirement match because he started John Cena’s main roster career back in 2002. Kurt Angle talks about Shane McMahon

Kurt Angle and Shane had a huge Street Fight at the 2001 King of the Ring event which, to this day, remains one of the most brutal matches in WWE history. Angle spoke on the most recent episode of his podcast for a special Q&A session, and said he would have enjoyed having his final match against Shane. He said:

“Shane would have been a great retirement match. But I don’t know if I want to go through a match like that. An ‘Anything Goes Street Fight’ with Shane McMahon when I’m 50 years old? I don’t know how my body would hold out with that thing.I thought Cena made sense because I started his career and I thought Cena could end mine. so, it made better sense, but I would have done Shane McMahon. I just don’t know if I would have been up for [the physicality].”
