While WWE officials have publically been denying that AEW is competition for them and AEW Officials have also only talked about building their company as an alternative, Chris Jericho doesn’t see it that way.
Once considered a WWE guy, Y2J was recently interviewed by TV insider and talking about the upstart promotion going against WWE, he claimed that it’s a war:
“This is a war. Even if you don’t want it to be, it just is. There hasn’t been any competition for WWE on a national basis for 20 years or more. I think this is something they didn’t really want, but it’s great for the fans and great for the guys. I think in the long run it’s going to make a difference because it gives people a choice. And it’s always good to have a choice.”
Apart from this Jericho also said that WWE employees should thank him because when he signed with AEW, he made the company legit.
He explained that this is why WWE is now fearing their talents leaving for the new promotion and offering raise and other benefits to stop them from jumping ships.
