Triple H Led The Elite In WWE Revealed

Jim Cornette revealed that Vince Russo wanted to originally called D-Generation X ‘The Elite.’ In mid-1997 his idea was for the group to have Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The New Age Outlaws, Erik Watts, Brian Christopher, and Sunny. The group later became D-Generation X, without Watts, Christopher, and Sunny. DX was a major rival of The Rock. The Elite later ended up forming in the late 2010’s, with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks leading the group currently in AEW.

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns is certainly one of the top competitors in the company right now and has been on a solid run as the WWE Universal Champion, but he is losing his top spot to two WWE Smackdown women. Roman Reigns successfully defended his WWE Universal Championship against WWE Hall Of Famer Edge and Daniel Bryan in a triple threat match in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 37. Roman Reigns might also be losing Paul Heyman eventually.

Roman Reigns also successfully retained his WWE Universal Championship against Cesaro in the main event of WrestleMania Backlash. Roman Reigns was scheduled to defend his WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio at the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. However, that match was shifted to a previous episode of Friday Night Smackdown.

Roman Reigns would successfully defend his WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio as well and went on to defeat Edge and John Cena in subsequent title matches at WWE Money In The Bank and WWE SummerSlam respectively. He then retained his title against Finn Balor at WWE Extreme Rules as well. He defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 and became the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion as well. The Rock vs Roman Reigns has been teased a lot over the past year as well.

While speaking with Wrestling Inc. Sr. News Editor Nick Hausman, Brian Gewirtz talked about The Rock vs Roman Reigns being teased on Young Rock.

“There were a lot of lines in there that did not have WrestleMania implications going into it. We also knew that it was a possibility and anything could happen. It’s not like the WWE in 2022 or 2023 as it relates to WrestleMania.”

I remember running it by Dwayne and he said, ‘I don’t know if the match is going to happen.’ Maybe it does or maybe it doesn’t, but it’s certainly a cool moment in the ‘Young Rock’ universe. If it does happen, then you know that little clip is going to be in the big video package so it works either way. That’s how I see it.”
