What the future holds for Cain Velasquez

WWE recently released Cain Velasquez, which came as a surprise to people. The company had a few reasons for releasing him from his contract. He cost WWE a huge deal of money and he was not being used at all.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about what the future holds for Cain Velasquez. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he cannot do anything right now. However, he just might continue with professional wrestling as a UFC return does not seem as likely.

Meltzer does not think Velasquez is likely to return to the octagon at this time of his career. He suggested AAA and AEW as possible future destinations but noted that everything is more difficult right now. Meltzer thinks that AEW would have used Velasquez a lot more as an actual wrestler, contrary to the Super Showdown match where he had “one takedown, one submission and that was it.” As for AAA, Meltzer said that they previously had plans of trying to bring him in, even though the chances were very low.

He also said he could see Velasquez working a TripleMania when he talked about how AAA would bring him in for a show. It is not known whether AEW will show interest in him in the future.
