Will Smith has played many characters on the big screen. He also plays the real-life character of being a husband to Jada Pinkett Smith. It looks like this real-life character may be the hardest he had to play since 2016.
Jada Pinkett Smith has not been vocal about her relationship with Will, until now. She recently spoke about it in a clip from her forthcoming NBC News Primetime Special with Hoda Kotb. Jada noted that Will and she weren’t “ready yet.”
The couple have been separated since 2016, but everything changed in July 2020. It was at this time that singer August Alsina broke the news of him being in a romantic relationship with Jada Smith. Pinkett confirmed it during an episode of “Red Table Talk.” Will was also present at the moment when Jada disclosed this information.
It was after this that the infamous slap incident with Chris Rock happened at the 2022 Academy Awards. Chris took a jibe at Pinkett for being bald. Jada suffers from alopecia, a condition that is responsible for her hair loss.
I thought, ‘This is a skit.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him. It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.
According to CNN, Pinkett talked about this incident in a new interview with People. Jada asked Will after the incident if he was ok. Pinkett Smith, 52, and Smith, 55, have been married since 1997. According to Pinkett in an interview with Kotb, their marriage got rocky due to “a lot of things.”
I think by the time we got to 2016, we we both just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.
Mrs. Smith “made a promise” at the time that there will never be a reason for the two to divorce and she has not been able to break that promise. Jade talks about her life, marriage and career in her new memoir ‘Worthy’ which releases October 17th.
