WWE have reportedly filed trademarks for the term Saturday Night’s Main Event. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the company are potentially looking at bringing back the concept during the ‘pandemic’ era.
Dave Meltzer wrote the following in this week’s Observer:
“WWE has filed trademarks for the term Saturday Night’s Main Event. Keep in mind that if college football conferences are shut down, and at least some of them area at this point, that means ABC, ESPN, CBS, FOX and FS 1 all will have holes in Saturday schedule and because of that, WWE will have more demand to put out more content”
With WWE’s new Thunderdome concept going live for tonight’s SmackDown it will be interesting to see if there’s a spark of intrigue coming from the mainstream for more live content.
There’s no official word on whether WWE will actually be bringing the show back. AEW will be hosting Saturday shows in the coming weeks due to scheduling conflicts on Wednesdays from major sports.
