WWE released veteran referee Mike Chioda earlier this year along with several other wrestlers, producers, and staff members to cut cost because of the pandemic. The WWE Universe did not take the sudden release of Chioda well after he had served more than three decades in the company. Among those who did not like the company’s decision of letting Chioda go is former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho.
Chris Jericho shames WWE
On his latest Saturday Night Special, Jericho straight up called WWE out for firing Chioda.
“I mean, come on, seriously? 35 years the dude has been at your company and you’re going to fire him? Besides the fact that the dude is a great guy and such a talented performer, and can run the whole backstage, but after 35 years, what’s he supposed to do?. Go get a job at freaking 7 Eleven? Like, shame on you WWE.” H/T: Wrestling INC
Chris Jericho pointed out that WWE had done the same thing with Mark Eaton and they are yet to find someone who can replace him in the company.
“They did it to Mark Eaton, a famous ringside guy that they still haven’t been able to replace him yet. When I was looking for time cues, Mark was always the guy.”

Mike Chioda’s AEW debut
Jericho is currently feuding with Orange Cassidy, whom he considers as a prominent future star of AEW. After the DemoGod won in their first singles match at Fyter Fest, Cassidy turned the tables on last week’s AEW Dynamite episode. Chioda made his shocking AEW debut in the episode, officiating their match as well as the TNT Championship match between Cody and Scorpio Sky.
Former WCW President Eric Bischoff also made a surprise appearance as the guest moderator for the debate segment between Jericho and Cassidy.
