After making a shock return to the ring at last night’s Royal Rumble, Edge is a man making the headlines. After making it through to the final four in the Rumble match, the Rated R Superstar will be at Raw this evening, and has reportedly also signed a 3 year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.
Stories of Edge’s return had been making the rounds from the final months of 2019 and PWInsider has shed some further light on how his return came to be.
The process reportedly begun several months ago when Edge was medically cleared to wrestle again after travelling to Pittsburgh. At the same time, he also reportedly held talks with Tony Khan’s AEW. We all know which way the decision turned out, but the rumor within WWE right now is AEW wanted Edge for a surprise appearance at their All Out pay-per-view in Chicago however lost out as Vince McMahon offered a more lucrative financial package.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com also provided further insight on Edge’s return:
What I’ve heard about Edge from people in WWE is that he’s not full time, but plans to be around a while and do some major shows, and additional spots here and there.
Him being cleared was a big talking point at Hell in a Cell backstage in October before the main event debacle
